It's not possible to effectively shield engine deck, so they put it where they could to get some protection. I don't blame them tbh.

Slat armor only works on shaped charges by destroying the cone which obviously will prevent the shape charge from forming properly. It doesn't slow down the penetrator even remotely. I doubt these are terribly effective. Maybe some protection against the 40mm shape charges they're dropping from drones.

I wonder if the cage will interfere with the APS or if they done minimal testing on it and said it's fine/ worth the tradeoff because that fence is not standing up to a rpg shooting down from a roof.
