Look at al-Qaeda. Totally wiped out by Obama's airstrikes. A million scholars told us that would just make more terrorists. But it didn't. We killed a whole generation of their Elliot Rodgers and then the whole Wahhabi thing went out of style.

I'm not an expert on this but my understanding is al-Qaeda in Iraq was mostly guys from Saddam's army. Then ISIS was the kids who snorted their own Kool aid and thought they could create their own massive r*pe dungeon.
At the risk of sounding negative, I remember lots of cases where about 20 guys were found zip-tied and shot in the back of the head. And then the US tried to stop tthis because they didn't want our side to win. It was just mind boggling. You're going to fight a counterinsurgency with nowhere near enough guys and you're against everyone.
