UNIFIL actually did a fairly decent job. They helped improve life in the region which prevented people from being radicalized. People forget how difficult it is to fight terrorism. The United States with the strongest military failed to defeat terrorism in Afghanistan despite fighting the Taliban for two decades. Why do you expect a small and underfunded force to accomplish something the United States failed to do? For its size and for its relatively small amount of resources, UNIFIL accomplished a lot. They helped stabilize a destabilized region and provided aid to the populace preventing the radicalization of millions of Lebanese civilians. People need to give UN peacekeepers their due respect. Yeah, but it used to be some country like Fiji would actually send a whole battalion. There used to be a few countries that specialized in pimping out their troops as UN peacekeepers and it was a big industry there.
Maybe I'm just confused because they changed their organization, but back 20 years ago they had about 10 countries that each provided one battalion and had their own sector of the line.  I remember looking at this exact same map 20 years ago and it wasn't nearly this cluttered.
