I think I remember reading reports that Hezbollah asked Hamas not to go ahead with their plan, or least buy them more time. Hezbollah and Iran were clearly unprepared and got spanked with their pants down. All Hamas had to do was wait 10ish years for Iran to get their nuclear program to a viable state. They lost so much land and leverage for nothing.
