Horrible News, Must Read! EVGA will no longer make graphics cards

https://forums.evga.com/Official-Message-from-EVGA-Management-m3574574.aspx

EVGA has finally gotten tired of Nvidia's bullshit and is dropping out of the GPU market. A 2 decade old partnership, kaput. :marseyitsover:

In case the CEO is reading this -

Turn it into a employee-owned company!

Communists are so annoying

"What? Of course not, I want it for free!"

Scheiße! Has a great German based branch and was one of the best aftermarket GPU manufacturer.

This is pretty big isn't it? I would assume that's a massive share of total Nvidia sales and EVGA's own revenue.

It's huge but nobody knows if this is good or bad.

On one hand, GPU prices are cratering because mining is dead and PC gaming has been declining from 2020 levels

on the other hand, AI acceleration cards are going to be in demand.

Maybe EVGA just felt that it was a good time to exit. They can always come back after the uncertainty is gone.

PC gaming isn't cratering, its just that I can run most of the new games on my 6yr old gtx970 without issues and some compromises on quality/fps. Many rarely want to upgrade from what they have because of the exorbitant pricing that nvidia decided to push

Buying overpriced GPUs is one step away from buying funko pops.

PC gaming revenue is declining for AAAs in particular. A lot of high profile projects are being cancelled right now behind the scenes. AAA companies overextended from pandemic growth and have to cut back now. It's not something the consumer would really notice because most of these cancelled projects weren't announced yet, but it's definitely happening.

they must be stupid to think the pandemic surge will continue.

GPUs are a huge :marseychadthundercock: percentage of their revenue but apparently very little :marseybaby: profit.

Darn. The thread says 80%. Their margins must have been absolute shit if they're doing this this.

Jump in the discussion.

I don't think any of the GPU partners make good margins on them.

It's a very real possibility they are losing money per sale with the newest cards and the forced price drops.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Sort of, the quality of their cards was fricking shit and they kept having hardware problems. Long term more advanced cards may have just been a market they couldn't sustain with their low quality products. Plus we're heading towards a second crash of the gaming industry, so now is a good time to hunker down.

I feel like this is probably a huge business blunder. Even if they aren't directly making much profit from GPUs, the only reason the brand name is so recognizable is their GPU quality. Nobody thinks of "yeah they make great PSUs" when you talk about EVGA.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

The good PSU’s they made in past years were rebranded superflower PSU’s too. Their current PSU’s are trash, haven’t seen a recent EVGA mobo in person, so IDK how those hold up these days.

CEO nuking a company because he feels slighted, seems cringe.

Third party GPU makers have been obsolete starting from the 20xx series onwards. There's no money in it when Nvidia is has been selling Founders Edition cards all the way up to the next release and deliberately gimping manufacturers because they see them as unnecessary middlemen.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah they don't really make much else worth buying. They actually have mice, keyboards, liquid coolers, I think cases, and of course PSU's, but I am not aware of any of these being worth buying, they're just meh products and almost certainly not designed by them, just rebranded.

I've heard they make great capture cards and motherboards. I also don't think they are just using an ODM for those 2 products.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Don't know about capture cards. Their mobos are generally very good but they only care about higher end of the market which is overkill for home usage.

They have the best warranty/service of all of the chin-x brands. WTF happened?

Maybe this is just me but I get the feeling next gen GPUs are going to be a minor disaster from the 30 seconds of reading I've done on them, housefire level wattage and now EVGA straight up saying no.

I'd pay decently to get a lower power consumption, lower heat GPU that could still do older games. Or even a mobile laptop GPU, just in a normal form factor.

AMD makes CPUs with a built in GPU that's basically this.

The death of crypto, supply chain shortages, stagnating tech demands (most normal consumers do fine with 2010 tech, and even top games struggle to max 2016 tech), and general macroeconomic issues (recession) are going to destroy this market. If I had any money to gamble now, I’d be shorting AMD and Nvidia.
