I used Chrome's "performance insights" tool. I opened reddit.com and rdrama.net in incognito, and ran the pageload test. NOTE: I am not a webdev so I might be misinterpretting these numbers.

caching may have something to do with it? we cache a lot of stuff and we cache media relatively aggressively.
there are also some actions that can cause the server-side page cache to be rebuilt so... that may be causing a difference in some cases?
also maybe the different music sizes(not a thing for /)there are definitely things we can do to improve the performance especially from our end
