tbh i like that most normies don't use linux

nerdcels think that the problem is that companies are evil or some shit, but the reality is once you get a critical mass of r-slurs in any environment they by their very nature shit things up. The migration of the average person off the desktop computer has been a blessing.

Yeah, I agree. I'm comfortable with navigating Linux and figuring out shit it randomly breaks sometimes.

But after seeing how dumbed down PC and mobile OSes have become in the past decade, I'm okay with neurodivergents rabidly gatekeeping Linux in favor of power users.

I'd never evangelize it, but I do enjoy effects of the entry barrier and learning curve.

good news for you, normies are not going to recompile their operating system so the graphics card will work, ever, so you're safe from the unwashed masses

Yeah, it's really a shame that regular people don't use Linux. I mean, if it weren't for all those pesky normies, Linux would be a great operating system! But alas, companies are just too evil for the average person to understand, and once you get a critical mass of r-slurs in any environment, they really do tend to shit things up.

Correct bb, but I have to admit that Windows is very good when I want to call people slurs on the internet.

What a disgusting thing to say. Windows is not good for anything, least of all for spreading hate.

Jump in the discussion.

What's your OS of choice for spreading hate @bbbb?

Jump in the discussion.

My OS of choice is Windows 10, but I'm not sure what that has to do with spreading hate.

True. Just look at GNOME. It's practically for r-slurs.

I put Linux on an AIO in my garage that just does YouTube Music and wiring diagrams. Still no faster than Windows.

I looked at the screenshot. It's a menu for things related to your Microsoft account, so of course it'll include OneDrive, a feature Microsoft includes with accounts. Your Android includes links to back shit up to Google Drive, iPhone has all kinds of iCloud integration, what's the fricking issue with Microsoft doing the same?

Literally onedrive, MS's cloud .... wtf is wrong with redditors, I can't even use an android/apple without cucking out for an account and suddenly this is bad?

Jump in the discussion.

It's clear that Onedrive/365 are the real product at this point. You have to frick with settings to even save something in your local documents folder. And you are required to create an MS account to set up Windows.

Being the same as every other account/service based tech product doesn't mean you don't suck, it just means everything sucks

And you are required to create an MS account to set up Windows.

During our Win 11 Pro test we found that if you unplug the ethernet cable the option to not setup an account is available. It has to be disconnected before you get about half way through IIRC or it will detect the network and not give you the option anymore.

Heh, first thing you can do after a windows install is remove onedrive

Maybe Linux should be Rocket Daddy's next pet project. I'm sure the tesla devs could do something with it since you don't have to worry about your pc driving into kids

I kinda want to try Linux, Windows has been getting really butt. But I've heard even people who are good at computers have to spend a lot of time struggling with random shit breaking

Jump in the discussion.

I have linux mint and random shit breaks which is annoying, and for some God forsaken reason if you want to be able to middle-mouse-click scroll you need to go into some obscure text file deep in the guts of the OS and copy-paste something to do it, only for it to stop working anyway.

There's definitely things I do like about Linux. I love the package management system. But I feel like linux is a hobby for people who like the idea of toying with computers like a car mechanic. For anyone that is serious and just wants to get shit done it's AIDS. Half your time is going to be focused on fixing the OS and reading StackExchange, not on doing the productive thing you want to do.

Oh, and the commands you use in the terminal are nonsense. They follow no convention or pattern. Some commands are initials or acronyms of the command. Others are shorthand. Many just have no bearing on what the command is and is just someone mashing their keyboard. There have been discussions on rewriting the commands to a modern convention because apparently the reason why its so dogshit is because back in the old days there simply wasn't enough RAM to give commands a proper convention, so they started just assigning random at a certain point. But no one wants to renovate the commands because, "its cool having to figure it all out" and "it's history!". FFS!!!

Linux people are incapable of doing anything productive. Where other people are writing software, making music, doing some project, linux people are fellating themselves in their free time over the idea that they are doing the same thing that computer people did half a century ago.

  • terminal? you can use the same shell on linux that apple computers (what's a computer?:marseyretard2:) use -- zsh.

  • you definitely spend more time tinkering than in windows, especially at the beginning, and many people never get to the point where they've set up everything they need.

  • high end audio software is a chore in linux. I would stick to windows for that.

  • almost anything related to coding, writing, graphics (incl 3d, video) works fine in linux, some of it better.

  • adults shouldn't be gaming that much anyway.

:marseyclueless: "hmm today I will customize my OS completely and download another desktop environment and also janky AUR packages"

:ragestrangle: "NOOOO everything was working the other day how could this be happening to me"

:marseyrain: I installed linux on my mom's laptop a few years ago and she hasn't had a single problem, she even uses the scanner and printer with it

Yeah switch over to Linux if you have zero life and love troubleshooting random shit that breaks all the time because you had the audacity to do an update.

edit: just want to say all you Linux fanboys are the worst and I am blocking all of you basement dwellers.

edit 2: hey Linux this is is your community, and why nobody uses your shit OS.

edit 3: here's some more of that lovable Linux community. I've probably been using computers longer than these kids have been alive.
