Bought a new phone last year:

8 gb ram

120hz screen

5000 mAh battery

Stylus

Headphone jack

256gb storage plus included 256gb sd card

$350

Why tf should I bother buying a new one anytime soon? As an upgrade? Lol the "flagships" cost 3-4 times more and have less features, so why bother?

Exactly, mid-budget is where it's at.

Good. Force them to give us more for less.

I've always used my phones to until they broke. Since my first iPhone back in 2008 to my current Samsung whatever, each phone lasted me 4+ years.

I use mine largely for standard phone things, emails and browsing. I don't see the point of getting the latest, top-of-the-line shiny thing for this use case, since most mid-budget phones are a lot more capable these days.

The tech feels plateaued to me and the top-shelf prices don't seem like they're value for money at all. Just glorified jewelry for people with more money than taste.

Dont know if it just means Im getting old now but I havent seen a new feature or update on a phone that I thought would be nice to have as an upgrade in like 7 years. If theres nothing new to entice me to get a new phone the only thing manufactures can do is encourage my drinking problem so I lose or break it

The only newish features I like are 120hz and foldable displays. Everything else is a gimmick.

I really really really want a foldable Samsung. Are they worth getting or are they stupid and dumb?

From what I've heard they are pretty good, though some apps don't work great on it so ymmv. It's definitely super practical and everyone who owns one doesn't want to go back to a normal phone.

However a couple apps just suck on it, ik Linus from LTT said YouTube studio is just broken on it. Also the price is steep if you don't have a trade in or discount, which can shave a couple/few hundred off.

At the very least you can buy one from a store with a good return policy, doesn't hurt to try them out in that case. Just see if you want the Flip or Fold.

Same.

The difference between my 2012 android and my 2016 one were mind boggling, but btwn 2018 and now? Negligible imo

Yeah performance and shit is up and phones can do video edits but I'm still running an s8 without issue, when it dies I'll buy another used phone off ebay.
