https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/95-engineers-in-india-unfit-for-software-development-jobs-report/articleshow/58278004.cms

Talent shortage is acute in the IT and data science ecosystem in India with a survey claiming that 95 per cent of engineers in the country are not fit to take up software development jobs.

According to a study by employability assessment company Aspiring Minds, only 4.77 per cent candidates can write the correct logic for a programme — a minimum requirement for any programming job.

Over 36,000 engineering students form IT related branches of over 500 colleges took Automata — a Machine Learning based assessment of software development skills — and over 2/3 could not even write code that compiles.

The study further noted that while more than 60 per cent candidates cannot even write code that compiles, only 1.4 per cent can write functionally correct and efficient code.

Nothing new. Education is a massive scam in India. Outside of top tier institutes (which is where those 1 to 2% people who can actually code come from) almost no one knows anything.

Most Indians shouldn't be taking engineering with the Math and problem solving skills they possess while graduating high school.

To give an example, I went to a third rate engineering college and most people couldn't solve basic Algebra problems(like this) in their final year and these people were taking shit like Electrical and Mechanical engineering. Although, those who prepare for difficult competitive exams like JEE and such aren't usually this bad. So are kids who go to good CBSE, ICSE (and few other alternative boards) board schools.

I can confidently say someone can learn better coding through 6 to 8 months of free online classes than spending 4 years and lakhs of rupees in most colleges.

Out of touch dudes who've probably only been around above average JEE prep-cels(which forces you to at least be good at solving math problems) or those who prepare for other fairly difficult competitive exams. But those aren't the majority.

Just like the survey in OP we usually get surveys like this regarding the state of Math education in India.

Rote learning in school days. You have let's say 10 example and 10 exercise problems in a particular chapter. The questions in exams from that chapter will be one(or some) of the problems without any alteration. So you just need to memorize them(steps and all).

Yeah i graduated from an IIT, went to CBSE Board

So, it's no surprise this stuff is obvious to you.

These type of questions are asked in government exams tho which a lot of people prepare for.

And filtering process for sweatshops like TCS, CTS, etc... There's an entire coaching industry for this both online(Indiabix site I linked is a popular one for this) and offline. Now the fact so many college students need "coaching" for this is telling. An IIT grad wouldn't need coaching for this, you should know.

It's more than English, a lot of kids genuinely can't make the connection that this is basic Algebra. Granted, age related problems is considered one of the easier topics that people pick up quickly once they've been told all they need is basic Algebra but still, none of this should need to be taught to a fricking Engineering grad.

You should be able to solve this. I interpreted the father's age as being 3*Ronit, googling the question, this seems like a common mistake (?) :marseymalding:

I want to say it's poorly phrased but it does say "three times more than his son" rather than "thrice his son's age". I'm an ESL, so idk if this is how they should phrase what they're going for:marseyshrug:.

All the sites give this as the solution.

Jump in the discussion.

But that's just written wrong then. Anyone who reads that would think they meant it as three times his age. Is it really a math failing if the problems are written in shit English?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

You will always be a part of a rat race in India. Truth be told, I'd rather a kid be a part of the IIT rat race(you'll come out academically competent at least) than the regular board exams rat race. The system and most teachoids won't care, it's upto the parents to take a healthy approach towards education.

Maybe, I dunno how it is these days but it was cut throat when I was doing it. Get 70% or less consistently and you'd be dropped to a non iit section to an eamcet section, and parents were informed that your kid is not fit for iit etc. Parents got into fights over this lmao. It was inhumane imo. So many of my friends cried when they were demoted and feared the parents wrath.

To be fair, you have to be very neurodivergent to understand rdrama.net. The bait is extremely obvious, and without a solid grasp of satire most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Carp's racist outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from MDE literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about THE INTERNET. As a consequence people who dislike rDrama truly ARE zoomers- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Janny's existential catchphrase "Y'all can't behave," which itself is a cryptic reference to Aldous Huxley's dystopian epic Brave New World. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those seriousposting wingtards scratching their heads in confusion as Aevann's genius unfolds itself on their mobile phone screens. What fools... how I pity them. :marseylaugh: And yes by the way, I DO have a Marsey tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
