I think just doing stuff is going to be your best bet. Install some vulnerable app on a virtual machine and check how the exploits work and etc

Thank you! I'm mostly interested in networking exploits which I guess would incorporate web applications too. Most things are watered down for ads and mainstream media doesn't get into details, and it's the forensics stuff that I really like.
