After a thread was made in [email protected] asking to defederate from lemmy.dbzer0.com for "the facilitation of piracy, and copyright infringement in general which is illegal", the admins of lemmy.world deleted it prompting discussions on asklemmy and piracy.

For super small-time artists, unironically this. If I really like something some small bedroom producer made, I'll buy it on bandcamp after.

unironically the most dramaphobic feature of lemmy. We should set up !drama on an instance which has fewer defederated instances.

I have [email protected], which has defederated from few instances thus far, plus we can troll hexbear chapoids and exploding heads chuds
Our other option is creating our own (@XY and maybe aevann wouldn't like that), federating rdrama.net, or hunting down the owner of the drama magazine on kbin.social and hoping he'll transfer us the community

So instead of 1 big reddit Lemmy is just a ton of small reddits linked together except they all block eachother?

Lemmy is what would happen to reddit if you gave mods the right to wall themselves off from other subreddits, i.e. you don't just get banned from /r/X for posting in /r/Y, you can't even use the same account to visit both.
To be fair, I don't think Lemmy was built explicitly as a reddit alternative, but it's hilarious that they did not see this coming (or worse, that they thought it was a feature). As it is, Lemmy is basically nothing more than a forum template.

Yes, just like how Mastodon is a ton of small twitters linked together except they all block eachother.
There are a few small instances that defederate from nobody, and even the lemmy and mastodon instances federate with each other. It's like email but with social media.

It's actually pretty great tech. People can just self host if they want to federate with everyone free of janny fiefdom.

tbh that's what I did but it's so fricking janky. Comments don't fully populate, votes don't either, even submissions don't fully populate. I'm pretty sure it wasn't always like that but something about the updates they had to push I think messed with the sync. Haven't checked in like a month tho, maybe they fixed it in >18.2

An actual reddit-base (like rdrama) with extra-server communication capability would be cool to see, the lemmy UI is just weird.

Lmao I remember Dbzer0 from the manarchist shitstorm back in 2010 when he started to tardwrangle the Manarchists. They were feminist critical Anarchists with usernames like bropotkin and Brahkunin. He is/was a mod on /r/metanarchism, which currently has so many rules that it couldn't fit on the subreddit rules section.
https://dbzer0.com/blog/i-survived-ranarchisms-shitstorm-of-2010-and-i-didnt-even-get-a-lousy-t-shirt/
https://old.reddit.com/r/Anarchism/comments/dyaof/skobrin_dbzer0_veganbikepunk_manarchist_enabling/?sort=controversial
It's interesting to see how anarchist communities both already had a lot of proto-sjw elements yet they weren't as ban happy as they are now

How even does this work
I see instead of reddit r/ or rdrama h/ the lemmy subreddits are ! and with the instance hostname after the subreddit name. Are they just entirely separate subreddits per instance or do posts to the same subreddit name from all not-yet-defederated instances get merged & displayed as one?
Jump in the discussion.

It's weird. They're all seperate communities. For example, [email protected] and [email protected] are different communities. But you can see both on both instances.

Until either of them decide they don't want to be friends anymore, which is only a matter of time for anything but the most milquetoast communities.
