I refuse to pay $14 for premium. If it was like $7 I would pay for it. Even charging $2 a month they would make way more from that person than they do with someone who watches ads.

they probably make more money with nonskippable ads so whatever youtube gotta make money i guess

>where ads show up

BUT WHY???the bots are gonna mess it up with ads in the middle of a sentence. also creators could insert ads at an exciting paet so it keeps the viewers engaged

I want to like Rumble too but it's filled with right wing r-slurs. Not typical right wingers but the conspiratorial r-slurred type. That, plus, it's going to need to start making money at some point so their move to a YouTube-style monetization is inevitable.

Thank you for writing this. Your actual content (drama and lolcows) being surrounded by paragraphs and paragraphs of worthless references to what random dudes said on reddit is the epitome of rdrama. The entire post could've been one or two sentences, but instead we got this beautiful example of why nobody likes dramatards.

My immediate thoughts are that this is a soft censorship move. For creators that disparage products and services that are deemed too influential, or are customers of google.

YouTube is borderline unwatchable on smart TVs with two 15 second unstoppable ads every 5 minutes. Piholes are gonna be pretty much mandatory for watching anywhere other than a browser

Jump in the discussion.

A trick I've learned is to click the info button and click "Do not show me this ad again" and it'll skip all ads. I do that whenever an ad is unskippable. Every couple weeks it'll stop you from doing that as it turns off ad personalization, so next time an ad plays just click the info button and click "Turn on ad personalization" and you can start skipping them again.

On Roku TVs, do piholes work for peapeepee, hulu, and other streaming services with ads? Ublock works fine on my computer, but it would be nice to just click on the app on the TV instead of plugging in the HDMI to my computer.

Edit: lol at how the filter messed with the NBC streaming service name I mentioned.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Can't speak for peapeepee (lol), but Hulu used to make you wait out the ad time with a blank screen and the timer counting down until your show comes back on. It was far better than the obnoxious ads coming on that were far louder than the shows

I did not know that people used TVs like computers. I thought that everyone ignored those shitty in tv apps and just hooked them up to a computer as a monitor like I do. It makes the most sense, seems to be no benefit the other way

I've used to think like you, but it's actually not that bad (compared to the alternatives) and pretty tinker-friendly. I better in every aspect than iOS or whatever proprietary crapware most smart TVs will throw at you. It has power management down better than linux afaik. With termux, you have a shell that can compile arbitrary software portable enough to run on arm, including most D programs, dlangui only the old 32 bit ARM chips thoughbeit.

Prooting into a real linux distro for ARM is also possible. If the phone supports HDMI over usb-c, you can have a portable desktop that is quite ok if you are accustomed to old hardware. Flagship samsung devices from 2020 have more RAM than my main laptop.

If you don't use the open source android AOSP instead of the bloated vendor ROMs, the battery manager will respect you when you request not getting your apps killed

The OS kinda sucks due to the security model. I think if you root your device, you can just use the linux system directly, but I haven't tried that yet. Especially file access is around 10x slower due to some android autism. Keep in mind that some apps like banks will lock you out if they detect root (:marseytrollgun: :bluehelmet: :bluehelmet: :bluehelmet: ), so better don't depend on these.

Having one GUI framework for the whole OS is actually a plus to me, even if you have to use kotlin for it. Since D has good templates, I want to try asrd:jni to try to port my personal programs to be used/ activated via an app.

It's genuinely amazing to me the amount of people who don't use Adblock or stuff like Newpipe or Revanced. I thought it was just a boomer and little kid thing, but nah. It seems the average person either puts up with ads or just cucks and buys Premium.

i have legitimately made ppl pissy for saying i refuse to deal with yt ads and then offering to set up an adblocker for them on their device. some have said theyd rather pay for it, some said they want their hekkin favorite yters to make money off their ad views, and some said the ads are sometimes interesting and they dont want to get rid of all of them

idk i think its fkn annoying when your friend is like 'you gotta see this video' and then youre both standing there in silence watching 30 seconds of dawn dish soap poured on ducklings waiting for the vid to start

I kinda get why tech companies make the decisions they do. The average internet user isn't as savvy as they were 2 decades ago when it was still mostly tech literate/semi-literate people and social media wasn't really a thing yet. But now, you can treat a lot of them like their chattel. They'll barely resist while you keep ruining their user experience and force them to pay for previously free features.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Oh, I'm not sure. After I found out pihole was useless for the Echo Show I just ditched it because uBlock/Adblock works just as well on the computers. I would believe it though because iirc the problem with the Echo Show was that they served the ads from the same server as the content and pihole can't just block ads at DNS level whereas uBlock takes care of that problem at a browser level.

I'm not exactly sure why pihole was working for my computers though because I wasn't using Adblock or anything like that and it worked great. I'm guessing it was serving the ads from a different server for some reason

Jump in the discussion.

Friendly reminder that pihole only works at the DNS level and cannot filter as thoroughly as uBlock or uMatrix can, and is only part of a complete breakfast Adblock scheme
