On the topic of subscriptions, what is it about services like Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, etc that attracts normies like a moth to a flame to the point it's considered weird not to have them? I was talking to someone IRL (I know this is already out of character) about the best ways to listen to music online, and he kept insisting Spotify was somehow better than YouTube without explaining what features it had that YouTube did not, even though YouTube is free, doesn't require an account, has comments, and can be used to watch videos as well. What advantage did he think he had?

better interface (tailored to browing music), better quality, better bandwidth use not having to load a 30 minute video that's just a png of the album art

artist pages that have all the discography there and organized

I mean if I wanted one specific song or weird old album, and to use adblock id search it on the tube but otherwise spotterfy

esp when phone listening bc yt cucks you to either keep the screen on or deal with the desktop interface on mobile (and the data concerns above)

some stuff on yt still has things like noisy intros which activates my :marseyautism: instead of having a clean copy of the song or album.

plus anything you have saved on yt will be wiped out every once in a while as people get their videos copystruck or their accounts get susan'd

the paid music service on yt isnt bad and competes with spotify

Tell me more about how you listen to your personal library that isn't available through a major studio licenser on Spotify. I upload it to YTM. I think Apple Music is the only other service with upload support, but I don't use a Mac.
