Useful DIY manuals. :marseythebuilder:

Practical Action (previously known as the Schumacher Centre for Technology & Development), an online resource devoted to low-technology solutions for developing countries. The site hosts many manuals that can also be of interest for low-tech DIYers in the developed world.

They cover energy, agriculture, food processing, construction and manufacturing, just to name some important categories.

This impressive online library put together by software engineer Alex Weir (RIP 2014. The 900 documents listed here (13 gigabytes in total) are not as well organised and presented as those of Practical Action, but there is a wealth of information that is not found anywhere else.

Other interesting online resources that offer manuals and instructions are Appropedia and Howtopedia. These are all wiki's, so :marseyshrug:

The website of the MOT contains, among other things, some 2,000 simple drawings of hand tools (ordered by shape, and by profession) and a collection of illustrated trade catalogues (up until 1950, in French).

A somewhat related publication is Edward H. Knight's American Mechanical Dictionary (1881): an almost 3,000 page encyclopedia with descriptions and illustrations of tools, instruments, machines, processes and engineering dating from the 19th century.

Knight's book contains not only early electric equipment and steam driven machinery, but also human and animal powered machines. The site is also host to a 1,500 page Western Electric Catalog dating from 1916, describing and picturing electric equipment on sale at the time.

Does it include manuals for organic fertilizer-based mechanisms?

I actually really want to see the Mechanical Dictionary, specifically the animal driven machinery. I love old machines and obscure mechanisms. Usually, I'm pretty harsh on boomers, but the reality of the matter is that I think that they had a better understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering than we do. We make better things, but they did make more beautiful and elegant things.

better understanding of electrical engineering than we do.

Boomers no chance. The greats of EE like Heaviside, Stienmentz, Tesla and others are responsible for everything our electrical grid is built on and they are still misunderstood since most people believe in the principal of the electron as a tiny negatively charged particle flowing thru wires delivering power like how water flows thru pipes. There is no positive or negative charge there is charge and discharge, and the electron is not a particle. Its all waves and fields maaaan

Old mechanical engineering teachings and lessons are shockingly well thought out. I stumbled upon videos the US Army put together in WW2 explaining how firearms function and they're better than any modern explanation.

This is like when John 'Elon' Musk made himself the default option on the twitter search bar. Truly kafkaesque. I think that Aevann is a horrible narcissist who cannot cope with a reality where he is not the majority of the world's friends. It's truly horrifying. And I hope that he gets some therapy or at the very least kills himself so our suffering can end. But I think that everyone aware of the man's situation understands that this too is a fruitless proposition - Aevann will continue their march until there is nothing less than total RDrama Subjugation under his iron heel. And we're going to let it happen, not because we want to, but because we can't get rid of the bastard. He created rdrama.net, and he's the only one who can truly understand its inner workings and machinations. Maybe that's why we must always hate and oppose him, because of we ever let our guard down, the Aevann will be let loose and destroy this final bastion of Internet Sovereignty.
