My day to day laptops have all been $60 chromebooks flashed and running gallium for years now.

Pi is better for some things because of i/o pins but you cannot beat the price vs specs of a chodebook

I just don't like Pi's just because their main demographic is script kiddies who pretend they understand electronics because they ran some python libraries to read a button or drive an LED strip or whatever.

If it wasnt for everything being brainlet friendly I would not be able to do electronics.

Not only chromebooks but you can buy all kinds of old used computers that were part of some office somewhere in 2013 or something. The downside is that you're using old technology so probably running them at max and your electricity bill will be rekt compared to a pi which costs a couple of £ per year if you run it 24 hours a day

this isn't even true tho. if you get a mini-PC from like 2016 (which is literally 7/8 years ago) they'll idle at effectively the same as a Pi. And we're talking single digit watts here, you'll save more power if you open your fridge less.

Orange Pi, Arduino, and a lot of Raspberry Pi alternatives are way better for the price. It depends on the use case, but I usually prefer to buy used think stations and optiplexes and switch out or add the components that I want.

Yeah mini-PCs are the kino choice.

The ARM Pi alternatives are iffy as well because you'll be stuck running an old kernel version or entire OS when the manufacture stops giving a shit (usually within two weeks).

I have been enjoying the Le Potato though.

I am not really at the point where I see any reason to have more than 2-3 computers in the home(if you count a smartphone), but maybe one day..
