Hopefully they will announce m4 MacBook pro at WDC in June then I can remind our it dept that I'm overdue an upgrade (but honestly I don't need one the M1 is that good).

They just launched the M3 six months ago, I think we'll be waiting a hot minute for new MBPs.

A lot of the hardware still has proprietary drivers specifically for Windows or Android, though in some cases Android drivers can be used. In particular, GPUs are not well supported, though there are other smaller problems. Overall, the situation is kind of like it was for x86 PCs 20 years ago.
