Valve has pinky promised that if they ever go under, they'll unlock the DRM for the games on their platform so you can continue to play any games you've purchased.

I don't necessarily believe that, but then again, I also don't really care. The only games I can't really pirate are online multiplayer games and if those are based on Steam's matchmaking services than they'd be going down as well.

I think the bigger issue is that if you ever have a dispute with Valve over anything they'll just delete your entire account, which IMO should be illegal, but currently isn't. Like if I issue a chargeback against Amazon for something, they can't come and repo every item I've ever purchased from them.

This possibility should show up indirectly on the contracts they make with publishers and devs, it shouldn't be so hard to see if the option is there or not.
