I'm thinking of switching from Mac back to PC within the next year or two, but sounds like Windows is just getting shittier with bad features and garbage adware (why can't it just be like Windows XP :marseycryingfast:) Make the plunge back to Micro$oft or stick with Crapple? I look forward to hearing totally original burns about Apple being for r-slur children :marseycrayoneater:

No, I will not use Linux :!marseyindignant:

!applechads help me out

oh funny cuz I was thinking about investing in a Mac laptop. I can write it off as a business expense anyway. What is making you switch?

There's a lot I like and like a lot. But, I think what really pisses me off is that I, as a user, can not open up a Mac and upgrade simple things like RAM :marseyraging:

Instead of paying a reasonable price for 3rd party brand and doing it myself, I have to pay extortion rates to have Apple install it >:(

I recently had a scare with my iMac and it made me look into replacements (just in case) which is when I found this info out. It's prob why I'm bitching and moaning now because I don't like being told I can't do something and I think big corporations just fricking hate their customers :pepereegun:

I'm just exploring options right now and seeing if it would be worth the switch.

I will probably end up staying with Apple like a cuck though because I really like the products for what I use it for :marseyadmire:

If you can just write it off, I would go for it. Gorgeous screen, computer works well, and if you're in the Apple ecosystem the products work seamlessly together.

The UI itself is "better" subjectively (more coherent than windows) although this is overstated in 2024 when a lot of apps you use will be Electron or cross platform in general.

I personally enjoy the gestures. It's so nice using the TrackPad to wiz around the ui.

I have heard people complain how many "helper" utilities they need for macOS but I personally don't see it? I've certainly paid a couple bucks for small utilities but nothing major besides CleanMyMac X.

The hardware is as good as it's ever been for workstation uses. I'd say gaming, server work and like truly bleeding edge professional rendering are the only things I wouldn't recommend a Mac system for. The scheduler they use for macOS is absolutely black magic. Coming from desktop Linux it is unreal to have a full compile going on and seeing zero stutters while doing other work.

I think you should do research on what model of the CPU you need for your work, some people overstate the performance metrics for the cpu and don't realize AMD and Intel caught up in a pure 1:1 perf show down (no one cares about perf per watt unless you're doing battery tests) as well as having models that spec higher core count wise.

Having access to a native Unix terminal is also super useful. I will say some of the macOSisms vs. Linuxisms will throw you off occasionally but it's still way less alien than windows.
