I'm thinking of switching from Mac back to PC within the next year or two, but sounds like Windows is just getting shittier with bad features and garbage adware (why can't it just be like Windows XP ) Make the plunge back to Micro$oft or stick with Crapple? I look forward to hearing totally original burns about Apple being for r-slur children
I do design and motion graphics stuff. iMac works just fine for that. What I don't like is that later versions don't even allow the user to add/upgrade their own RAM. That makes me mad >:(
The extra RAM you can get on a Windows computer is to handle the bloated OS + the 30+ programs that auto-start because your OEM (unless you build) installed because it you need it
Also if you do go windows let me know if you need help setting up natural scrolling! Windows took that option away in 11 and unless you use a logitech mouse that has the option in their extra software you have to use regedit

Natural scrolling is where when you scroll the mouse wheel up the page goes down, and when you scroll down the page goes up, so inverse of the windows default. It is superior in every way and I do it with my pinky up to flex on windowcels
Haven't used one yet. Looking at the Mac mini with M2 Pro and saw it had either 16 or 32 GB unified memory and all I was thinking was that's not nearly enough (I guess it's way more efficient though?)
If you don't have enough memory you don't have enough memory, not much way to go around it. However the computers don't get hot is the biggest thing. That's what lets macbooks have long battery life. It also means that it won't slow down as you use it

Unless you wanna game or are on a huge budget crunch stick with macs. You cant upgrade ram on macs because they are an ARM SOC its why the ram swap is fast and the cpu is power efficient it just comes with the territory. The windows ARM machines have the same limit. Windows ARM laptops are super unoptimized and badly supported so I wouldn't depend on one to do anything but web apps. The soldered SSD is pretty undefendable tho !applechads .
No gaming, just use it mainly for design and motion graphics (and a some video editing which I'd like to get into a little more). How much memory would you suggest if I stick with Apple? Looking at Mac Mini M2Pro and it has either 16GB unified and 32GB unified. The low number has me all but if it's more efficient
If ur not getting a laptop you'll see less benefit tbh. It'll use less power but ofc battery wont matter. I use the m3 pro with 36 gb and it's enough for multitasking and data visualization. Get a used or third party m2 max with like 64 gb tbh if ur gonna go for an m2 . I wouldn't say its more efficient in one program but its def faster at swapping out. With apple it'll basically use as much ram as you give it so you just wanna make sure the memory pressure is green.
it just seems like a waste of money when you can build a much more capable computer without using apple. Windows sucks but there are debloated versions of Windows that you can use. Given if everything were the same, Apple would edge out over Windows but that price to play is stupid to me.
If you don't mind throwing money away, stick with Apple. Every update is actively making Windows worse. The latest gave me a full screen prompt offering to setup OneDrive "Now" or "Remind me in 3 days", no other options. Can't even close it. Frick that company.

I use all 3 OSes daily, and if you can't/won't switch to Linux, then stick with a Mac. One of my jobs sent me a pretty decent Lenovo and every day I have a million small frustrations using it compared to my other job's MBP. I have yet to encounter a Windows laptop with a touchpad as nice as a MBP from 10 years ago, let alone the current ones, and Windows really is getting worse with every update. Poorstrags will complain about the extra price but if you're using it every day, and especially if you're making money from it, it's worth the extra scratch. I still mostly game on Windows, but with Proton, I'm even doing that less and less.

I'm just exploring options right now and seeing if it would be worth the switch.
I will probably end up staying with Apple like a cuck though because I really like the products for what I use it for

The UI itself is "better" subjectively (more coherent than windows) although this is overstated in 2024 when a lot of apps you use will be Electron or cross platform in general.
I personally enjoy the gestures. It's so nice using the TrackPad to wiz around the ui.
I have heard people complain how many "helper" utilities they need for macOS but I personally don't see it? I've certainly paid a couple bucks for small utilities but nothing major besides CleanMyMac X.
The hardware is as good as it's ever been for workstation uses. I'd say gaming, server work and like truly bleeding edge professional rendering are the only things I wouldn't recommend a Mac system for. The scheduler they use for macOS is absolutely black magic. Coming from desktop Linux it is unreal to have a full compile going on and seeing zero stutters while doing other work.
I think you should do research on what model of the CPU you need for your work, some people overstate the performance metrics for the cpu and don't realize AMD and Intel caught up in a pure 1:1 perf show down (no one cares about perf per watt unless you're doing battery tests) as well as having models that spec higher core count wise.
Having access to a native Unix terminal is also super useful. I will say some of the macOSisms vs. Linuxisms will throw you off occasionally but it's still way less alien than windows.
Windows is fricking annoying. I would never use it unless I had to (i.e. playing games, using software that only works on windows). It's almost as restrictive as an iphone but it's a computer. I could never make that switch. You might not be a linuxcel who has to customize every little thing, but windows is so much worse than macs in this regard

Stick to Mac. If you like the OS, stick with it. W11 isn't that great, but if you want to switch, go to Fedora or something Linux. There's more Mac-esque distros out there with linux. W11 also runs like a turd. It's such a crap program.

lol is that C++? Wait are you binding that with Python?! Imagine using those over Rust. As a proud Rustacean and Ferris the Crab adorer, I regret to inform you that your taste in languages sucks. This is sad. You can do better. You know how easy package and dependancy management is with Cargo? Not to mention you don't even need a Makefile. It's great. Dynamically typed languages need to die. There's no other option. They just do. If you like dynamic typing, you need some help. Seriously. By using a dynamically typed and interpreted language (which means its @#*!&!@ slow!!!), you are committing genocide and harming the environment more than gas cars. Rust is fast and uses clean, renewable energy through the magic of being a language compiled with LLVM. Tired of memory bugs? You should be. Shame on you for still having them when Rust exists. Tired of being bad? Time to go to Rust. Tired of being slow because you're not smart and your friends laugh at you? Rust is quite speedy indeed (all thanks to the big brain of the compiler). Tired of not getting off the normal way? Match statements, loops, and the compiler for Rust give the best orgasms 10/10 (completely legit). Not to mention the superiority you get to feel when you show off your superior Rust code to your inferior "friends" still using some other language. Want to get rid of malware? Rust is safe, therefore malware is noware (also completely legit). You quite honestly will forget about any other language (including English because it's slow and unsafe). You even get to add the Rust Book and its brothers to your Bible collection alongside the Arch and Gentoo Wikis. All hail Rust. TempleOS pales in religious comparison to the faith of Rustaceans. Graydon Hoare is Jesus. Amen.

Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably lame.

In Submissions
Please do things to make titles stand out, like using uppercase or exclamation points, or saying how great an article is. It should be explicit in submitting something that you think it's important.
Please don't submit the original source. If the article is behind a paywall, just post the text. If a video is behind a paywall, post a magnet link. Fuck journos.
Please don't ruin the hole with chudposts. It isn't funny and doesn't belong here. THEY WILL BE MOVED TO /H/CHUDRAMA
If the title includes the name of the site, please leave that in, because our users are too stupid to know the difference between a url and a search query.
If you submit a video or pdf, please don't warn us by appending [video] or [pdf] to the title. That would be r-slurred. We're not using text-based browsers. We know what videos and pdfs are.
Make sure the title contains a gratuitous number or number + adjective. Good clickbait titles are like "Top 10 Ways to do X" or "Don't do these 4 things if you want X"
Otherwise editorialize. Please don't use the original title, unless it is gay or r-slurred, or you're shits all fucked up.
If you're going to post old news (at least 1 year old), please flair it so we can mock you for living under a rock, or don't and we'll mock you anyway.

Be snarky. Don't be kind. Have fun banter; don't be a dork. Please don't use big words like "fulminate". Please sneed at the rest of the community.
Comments should get more enlightened and centrist, not less, as a topic gets more divisive.

Please pick the most provocative thing in an article or post to complain about in the thread. Don't nitpick stupid crap.
Please don't be an unfunny chud. Nobody cares about your opinion of X Unrelated Topic in Y Unrelated Thread. If you're the type of loser that belongs on /h/chudrama, we may exile you.
Sockpuppet accounts are encouraged, but please don't farm dramakarma.
Please use uppercase for emphasis.

I will probably end up staying with Apple like a cuck though because I really like the products for what I use it for
If you can just write it off, I would go for it. Gorgeous screen, computer works well, and if you're in the Apple ecosystem the products work seamlessly together.

Working with Mac OS is easier for me than windows. I hate all the windows bloat and popups etc.

Stick with Apple. It's not like you have any choices. Altho you haven't ruled out BSD or Oxide.

Amen.
