Navy chiefs do a little opsec fail

The chiefs mess all paid in and they set up repeaters throughout the whole ship lol. Strictly kept it to e-7 and above but no officers.

Turns out even criminal conspiracy and a court martial wont get you demoted from chief.

There was one who was but it was for sleeping with an e3 who worked for him and when they got caught she claimed r*pe

navy is really fricking up left and right

there was that commander the other day who got relieved of duty for posting a picture of himself shooting a gun with the scope on backwards.

Nah it's his fault for not noticing, but he definitely got set up by his lower enlisted. Probably cuz he's bad at other shit and they wanted him gone.

I checked and he got replaced by a woman

Every time I read a navy commander replaced article some woman replaces him

How often do you think Navy officers use guns as part of their job

What kind of r-slur argument is this? They literally are trained to use rifles.

This is like a mock AR you give to the range newbie to laugh at them.

Pretty sure Navy OCS only does pistol qualification.

At least in Canada, you would have rifle and pistol training in officer basic training, with annual re-qual, its not at all difficult, but you need to operate the systems to a basic level of proficiency

Even without those re-quals I would expect, at a minimum, a naval officer of any trade and rank should be able to know how to shoulder a rifle and know that the scope is mounted in the right direction, if not in an optimal position fore or aft, (I'd excuse the foregrip positioning) its not that complicated

He's managed to reach command, and with the pic being this sloppy (if you don't know ask and he should know enough to ask) the loss of confidence makes sense

I will say as a fully self-taught shooter (extensive flat range larping) that most enlisted military guys I've shot with have solid fundamental marksmanship techniques for rifles but really struggle with shotguns and pistols.

I'm not friends with any officers who weren't into guns (neurodivergent) before joining so I have no idea how bad it is with a senior officers

Not uncommon when dealing with pirates or other motorboat small craft.

Ziggers :marseysoldierrussia: commonly resort to AKs when attacked by naval drones (aka remote guided torpedo boats, ww2 tech), but you clearly need at least .50 cal to stop unmanned boat.

tbh I don't think officers even shoot guns except like once during training. most af/navy ENLISTED only ever shoot guns during basic, except for secfo/ milpolice who have to shoot regularly.

oh and maybe army/ marines im not sure i know they have a rifle week but i don't know much shooting they do

Did he assemble that gun set up himself? Like they still have guns around for officers?

He was probably disliked by the people he led so the armorer handed him a gun with the scope backwards to make him look r-slurred.

I don't think he was fired for the picture more likely the loss of confidence in his ability to lead.

idk all Marines shoot at least once a year as a service requirement so that's around 2-3 weeks on the range and tables 1-6, the specific stuff for their unit and MOS METL like combat arms has to shoot heavies and probably maybe CQB and sometimes just to burn ammo

The whole thing is embarrassing.

1. Scope is on backwards

2. Shoulder stock isn't against the shoulder

3. Chickenwing arm = bad shooting stance

4. Foregrip not mounted nearly far enough out

5. Again how do you mount a scope backwards and never realize between setting it up and using it for this photo

I find it pretty bizarre. My dad tells me that in Vietnam (at least the later part of it) the officers would try to completely sweep under the rug any drug or racial problems that would reflect badly on them. Or if they couldn't do that, scapegoat the enlisted guys for it. But here they had to know they couldn't sweep this under the rug, so why not actually punish some people?

And she was so goddarn brazen about just telling lie after lie where she knew she would get caught. Makes me wonder how many times before this she was obviously breaking the rules and there was just a little wink wink :marseywink: and no consequences.

Reminds me of Alice Guo going into the court and just brazenly lying about things like how many siblings she has. Btw !pinoypride she's fled the country, been caught, extradited back, and taken some selfies with the cops that make me question her sanity. Things are moving so fast it's hard for me to keep up but I'll try to work on a Guogate Update tomorrow.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Often the sweeping under the rug happens because cleaning house causes a lot of grumbling and upset, and to higher leadership makes it look like your unit is a frick up and you dont have it under control. It's paradoxical, because cleaning house is how you get your unit in order but its seen as a negative because it should magically have not become necessary in the first place. And also all the paperwork and shit going with it is additional work for the top, and potentially makes them also look bad to their leadership, so often it's easier to sweep it under the rug and kick the can down the road until you move on to your next posting in 3 years, and just hope it doesnt blow up until after you're gone so the next guy gets the blame.

There might be a chance of someone sticking their neck out and being the first one to try to clean up the problems if they were motivated enough. But these people know that the LCS is a useless piece of shit that won't even be used if war breaks out, so there's nothing to inspire them to take that chance. Same as any big bureaucracy where people have got to believe they're making a difference: cops, courts, health care, education.

Lol the Navy hasn't figured out how to get internet on their ships in 2024

They could just use special Starlink satellites tied into their radio systems but instead they have to invent some NIH solution that will cost billions and suck

The ship did get an official Starlink installed. That was the only reason the illegal Starlink got discovered. The sailors were too stupid to notice an extra satellite despite three different searches, it took a Starlink technician to crack the case.

You may think you're hot stuff, the Fred Astaire of this topic — but if you're Fred Astaire, I'm Ginger Rogers: Anything you can do, I can do — backwards, without looking, and in high heels.

You're a computer systems engineer? Wow! Have you publicly called out the CEO of Intel for the untrustability of their encryption blackbox silicon? Have you explained at an ELI5 level the feasibility and utility of peer-to-peer communications network routing? How about explaining fast fourier transforms to a college kid? These are just the things in computer science I've been gilded for. That doesn't count the parts where I picked up the comment of an actual climate scientist that demolishes every single claim made in your oldest gilded comment. Or the two years worth of reddit gold other people gifted me just for being the flagbearer of that comment. That doesn't cover where I kneecapped a transphobe's Loaded Question in an AMA in /r/science. Oh, and then there was the one where I explained morphological diversity and the evolutionary basis of intelligence in Aves and Mammalia.

And those are just the gilded comments.

That doesn't cover the comments where I haven't been gilded, like when I shredded the methodology of a trash poll conducted to produce misleading public support figures on the question of whether trans people ahould be allowed to use a restroom.

The thing is, that once someone has been a scientist, they never stop being a scientist. They never stop thinking rationally and critically. They tear apart obvious bullshit with ease after years of doing peer review with actual scientists, after working with their advisors and departments to produce a worthwhile and defensible doctoral thesis, even.

Your most recent gilded comment is a regurgitation of a Stormfront / White Supremacist blogosphere talking-points memo, which in turn was based on a bullshit misread of a statistical publication, by conflating causation with correlation.

And no, my capslock key isn't stuck; I prised it off my keyboard two decades ago so that I would have to be cognisant of holding Shift with my pinky while typing, so that I wouldn't accidentally hose up Windows 2000 source code. Every capitalised letter I write is intentional.

I have no more time to play slapbox with you.
