I assume it's some bullshit calculation extrapolating the amount of water lost to humidity by the industrial evaporative cooling used for the entire building

It's a shame that every process that uses water, from growing livestock to cooling, does so in a permanent way by irreversibly atomicaly annihilating the water molecules and banishing them from this universe

...This is the most r-slurred statement I have ever read on this site and I was here since the very beginning. You truly are the special anon.

There is a global water crisis ongoing right now.

More than 700 million people don't have access to clean safe drinking water. If that's not a global crisis I don't know what is.

Why would they need water to clean safe drinking water?

Stfu no there isn't. Some places have water shortages, other places don't, just like always. The places that do need to conserve water, the places that don't don't. There's nothing global about that.

Nah, it's probably based on all the rain water that falls yearly in the state where the servers are.

Prolly also water boiled to produce electricity. Bonus points if they didn't even take into account cooling towers :marseyreactor: , though I doubt it

No their air conditioners are called chillers and cool water that is used to cool the air in the building. You can use the amount of heat produced to get a pretty direct result of how much water you'd need.

Googling is hard though so it makes sense to just assume r-slurred shit instead.

How are you determining "amount of heat produced" for ChatGPT to do something?

It's neat that you want to be an antagonistic peepee for no reason, but I'm talking about a specific type of rooftop unit that uses open-air water to cool the coils, not closed-loop chilled water.

I've been inside them. I've wired the master blower fan for them.

One project I was on, the engineers fricked up and they had to reinforce the roof because they upsized the rooftop unit without factoring in the extra weight of the water.

So you're aware of the different cooling systems but are pretending you don't understand how much water is used by the chillers? That's asanine. Evaporative cooling would be the lowest source of water used.

how would they know how much heat it takes

Because all of the electricity used in a chip is turned into heat. It would be very straight forward to calculate with publicly available data.

How much water is 'used' by evaporative cooling is not as simple as "the chip draws 100 watts"

Outdoor temperature. Outdoor humidity. Drying demand. Cloud cover. Building size. Insulation. Occupancy. Non-server heat sources.

How efficient is the chip doing the work? How much work is actually being done to perform a single ChatGPT request?

There's thousands of variables behind this.

How many extra atoms of water evaporated due to the extra heat put out by the 60hp motor that had to work slightly harder due to the cooling demand by a ChatGPT request?

You should bow out of this one, the chatgpt conversation you'd need to get the math worked out would just be more cups of water gone forever
