/u/Gryzemuis You are a massive cuck if you are working for below $200k with a networking career that stretches back to the 80s. Have some respect man.

Some Boomer I played DnD was getting $200k a year to make sure some thing he wrote in COBOL doesn't break. Fricker doesnt even go into office, just travels to random nerd conventions and bangs whores.

Yeah dude get into IT as a lowly tech cel and figure out some software a bunch of companies use but you can't learn without them paying for a license l, etc and get certified. I know the dumbest people in the world making way over 160k/year who got certified to run shitty Amazon web dashboards and do nothing all day

Got my code running in 5 different commercial routing OSes.

And I make less than the OP.

Fosstards are so fricking helpless, bet he didn't make a single $ out of that code :marseyxd:

Better work on his seppuku skills instead :marseylaugh:

He'd have to be like 80 to have a career going back that far. He's probably lying.

Something you can't see with these posts is the person himself. A lot of very smart IT people are completely unmarketable due to poor social skills and hygiene. You keep them in the back doing their thing but you can't let them talk to anyone. ITcels like to argue that skills are all that matter, but your ability to talk to people and sell yourself is much much more important.

How does that even work? Why would a high cost of living professional make less in the same company as a lower cost of living entry?

Different labor market conditions in different regions. Same reason why in multinational law firms you're seeing 1st year burgers start at double the pay of 1st year associates in Europe and by year 4 they take home more than senior partners in the UK and Canada.

Euros also have no negotiating power; as CS jobs are probably the easiest thing in the world to outsource.

But wouldn't the same pressures of outsourcing apply to Americans?

The difference is that US employees actually have a higher standard of work compared to EUrangutans or jeets, meaning they can* be worth the cost.

Surely that's controlled for by seniority right? If this labor is truly transferable
