The main problem I saw is there are actually very few 'diverse' engineering candidates.

So, diversity hiring proliferated in all the ancillary roles. Roles which the tech companies have now largely made redundant. My company has gone from being mega diverse, to being exclusively white and asian men because they're the only people the company needs to operate.

That's been my experience as well, can't tell you how many female product managers I've met that have absolutely no idea what's going on. They also tend to hate the women who do know what's going on, it really is just importing the high school experience
