Is HN truly a bunch of masochistic cucks in every sphere of their lives? On the ethics :mjlol: of using kindle and buying books in 2025 (mfers too poor to buy an ipad and go to libgen/Anna's archive)

Amazon now discloses you're buying a license to view Kindle eBooks

I've only bought a few ebooks but even then, I've immediately went and pirated them too to feel like I have something

:#marseysaint2:

Ever since Amazon removed copies of Orwell's "1984" from people's Kindles after sale, it's served as a reminder that ownership is a fickle thing

It's literally 1498. :itsjoever2#:

It's ok boys, now you're allowed to pirate all books ever published as long as you don't seed.

If you heckon get the zucchini reference your a genus :#marseybigbrain:

This is the result of a recent law in California:

:#marseyhmm:

That button should say "Rent this book".

Claiming you can "Buy this book" is a lie and false advertising.

Yeah. I "bought" a Kindle copy of There Will Be War awhile back to get access to a few of the short stories in the collection.

Maybe not a super popular opinion on HN, but this effectively changes nothing for me. I love reading on my kindle, by far the most convenient way to buy and read books for me (esp when traveling often).

It's good that they are now being upfront about it, but it won't impact my buying behaviour and it won't for the majority of readers.

I don't think I would ever buy an e-book.

I really want to find a good way to buy DRM-free ebooks.

I really want to spend on :#marseyfunkobox:

Support your local bookstore, before they are all gone.

:#soyjakfat:

Buy a printer moron

I have bought books from Amazon and Manning.com, mostly technical books. I have to say, I am so happy with the business model of Manning.com:

I am a booklicker , but I gots to say, some books taste better than others

And many more cuckistanis abound

Do people not realize you can load pirated books on your kindle? I buy books for it from time to time just due to ease of access and not being poor but there's nothing stopping you from putting pirated books on your kindle. And I think people would be surprised just how many books are available to download for free online that are completely legal to download

I wouldn't know. I have always found it to be an outdated device

Isn't there some annoying process where you need to email the .epub to some automated Amazon email system that converts it to the Amazon format and sends it to your Kindle?

idk maybe they've fixed it but that used to be the process

Meanwhile with actual good models like the Kobo ones you can just plug them in via USB and copy the files directly. No internet required.
