The Execution of Skype is set for May. RIP in Piss

https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft/microsoft-is-reportedly-killing-skype-after-14-years-of-neglect

orange you glad i didn't say ars discusses and makes for of Skype dying because Microsoft sucks at literally everything lmao

In a move that will likely surprise no one, it appears Microsoft is gearing up to shut down Skype in the coming months. Spotted by XDA Developers, the latest Skype for Windows preview reportedly includes a hidden string that reads "Starting in May, Skype will no longer be available. Continue your calls and chats in Teams." No other details are provided, but it certainly sounds like Skype's days are numbered.'

Skype used to be really great back in the day compared to anything else available. Even for microsoft's standards, they really fricked it up quickly. The very first thing they did was route everything through their central servers (gee I wonder why) and then they completely fricked the interface making it bloated and awful (the linux client was really light and decent beforehand). I've been using mostly telegram for a while now, but there were a couple of years that were really annoying while everyone slowly migrated over to other messengers, but you still needed a skype installation in order to talk to the remainers.

Skype on Linux just kept getting worse and worse and worse. For a while, joining a call with my friends meant restarting Skype a dozen times until I got lucky and it worked, same with everyone else on Linux.

"We pinky promise to keep Skype on Linux great!" My butt

Almost everything MS touches has this garbage, bloated, jeet quality. I was forced to use Teams at uni and it was a miserable experience.

Nothing gets better. Its just stedy slide downward. Outlook/hotmail was so nice. Now its pain too use. Browser versio is still good. But logging in too them is pure pain. It was such easy thing in past.

They are dropping good windows too mid windows. User expirience has been downward since 7.

Slack is starting to become shittier with every update though, but it's still leagues ahead of teams.

I currently have a bug with my work teams where it just randomly decides I don't have the rights to view the messages I'm in and stops all notifications until I refresh the page making it useless to know when someone wants to contact me. Sometimes it does it mid call and I'll be booted out in the middle of a sentence. I hate Office 365 so fricking much.

Has Teams fixed the issue where, if you search for a message, all you can see is the exact message you searched for, with no ability to jump back to when that message was sent and find context?

Crazy how they never capitalized on it during COVID.

80% of Evilsoft's business is companies subscribing to M$ products because that's the thing to do. Literally no end user has ever organically decided to use Teams / OneDrive / Office365.

Skype was never good so it's entirely unsurprising
