the thing that gets me about math notation is why do they have to use the letters that rhyme? its always e, c, p, g, t, z, v so confusing.

n and m are the worse because they sound and look so similar especially when pronounced by some chinese phd student, yet theyre always used together in compsci. used to drive me insane

Frick yall math nerd academic butt nigqas hes right, all the greek symbols are stupid and pseudocode makes more sense. And yeah before you ask I took 3 calc classes, diff eq and linear algebra which just reinforced my belief that math nerds are r-slurs who get off on thinking knowing all that shit makes them smart.

Maybe if you were so smart your asses wouldnt be broke lmfao.

You would have an actual mental breakdown if you tried to solve an equation ivolving sigma notation with pseudocode. Just fricking imagine writing out all that redundant syntax like 20 times.

The point of for loops being a notation for this in code is because we can't easily type out Summation in a text editor. Also For loops are a bit more advanced with what you can put in them.

Vice versa for math, you can't easily write out code on a paper, but you can definitely draw a big fat E sigma icon with scribbles on the sides.

As a mathematician, everyone in CompSci is an absolute brainlet and can go frick themselves. I love failing the compsci majors who have to take my Calculus classes and then complain the entire time that it's proof based.

Last semester I took an introductory cryptography class which was crosslisted such that it could be taken either as a math or a CS class. My university has a site where you can see the grade distributions for different courses and sections, so I took a look at that course and noticed something interesting in the data. The math section listing of the class had 2/3s of students getting As, while the CS listing had about the same proportion failing, how strange.

How many in your class actually are going to use calculus at all? I think it's funny to have it as a way to weed out r-slurs but I had to take it twice (once for business once for comp sci) and I don't think I ever had to use it outside class, especially the ones with trig bullshit. I will say though that having a solid understanding of compound interest at a young age was beneficial.

large scary math symbols

why do codecels have to be actual r-slurs. Math symbols are that way for a reason, for example people have to write them on blackboards and paper so terseness is important. If you cannot keep track of the meaning of a couple symbols you should have learned in high school then you are not intelligent enough to understand any actual mathematics.

:sigmacap: and :picap: are defined and always do the same. If I see those I know what they do.

If I see a for-loop I have to look at it and read it to understand it. Because not every for-loop can be replaced by a math symbol.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

For loop can always be replaced. If there is gonna be a known amount of iterations. If you don't know use another form of iteration

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Are you referring to loop unrolling? Because that would mean I have to even more code to notice if there's a small change from the "short" version.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Why would you want to replace a for loop with something else if it's going to be a known amount of iterations? That doesn't make any sense.

Jump in the discussion.

I mean by the sigma notation. Then it is different thing about readability

Jump in the discussion.

Jump in the discussion.

You can do it. Looks like shit and barely readable. It be sum function that doesn't sum anything. But just does other shit inside it.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah, well maybe if you actually knew how to code you wouldn't be such a fricking moron. But since you're clearly an idiot, I'll spell it out for you: your code is garbage and barely readable because it doesn't do anything. So maybe you should learn how to code before you try and write any more.

That's literally capital Greek Pi for product though. Not the hardest thing to remember.

The problem is that it’s just called product which kinda sucks for explaining verbally to people. Tbf though most proofs make 0 sense explained out loud, you have to read them to follow.
