Is this VPN fine?

I've been using this VPN software called sofether with a plugin for vpngate, it basically gives a pretty large list of ips that constantly change so they can sometimes even bypass sites that block proxy ips. I think in return my own connection is available as a vpn to others, that's how they can offer so many new ips and occasionally I'll see personal names used in the name column which means its probably personal pcs serving as the connection. I'm a bit unclear on this point and I'm not going to :marseyreading: nerd stuff. Turns out that might have gotten me on some vpn block filter on a chan, it is an otherwise static broadband connection that would have no reason for being banned. But that makes me think, is it safe? As in will I end up being liable if someone fricks around with a connection through mine? They keep logs for 14 days.

this seems like a great way to get officers knocking on your door over cp distribution

I don't think they do that where I live. Plus wouldn't pedos use vpns that don't keep logs?

You absolutely do not want this. Letting random people on the internet use your network as a vpn exit will reduce the reputation of your ip address, make your isp mad or concerned and in the worst case, sent the cops to your door.

If someone uses your connection to commit a cybercrime, you probably won't be held liable but the investigating agency may want to borrow (seize) and analyze (they will find your """homework""" folder) your equipment for evidence.

Seems like your ip address's rep has already taken a hit if 4chan blocked it.

It isn't 4chan, its a small imageboard and the admin told me there's some sort of third party blacklist he uses. 4chan mostly range bans everything in my country but this IP can post there surprisingly enough. Neither my college wifi nor my data connection can.

Was I the one who recommended it to you? It's mostly IP addresses of Japanese/Korean universities so I don't they'll give a rat's butt unless you did a real big whoops lol

It's good for farming accounts and shit because they're not listed as VPNs in the Geoip database

No I found it on my own. And no I don't mean them caring about me I'm wondering if my connection is also being used as a vpn by someone else and potential consequences from that. Assuming that's how it works I'm not sure.

Your India IP or the VPN's? If it's the latter it's because that IP address is shared publicly

Possible I suppose. I actually know the admin and xe said xe was using a standard third party filter though.

use tor

I use it to torrent anime and stuff like that, not bare browsing. Otherwise the free vpns would do, but it needs to be decently fast too which is how I discovered this one.

bruh, you have it all wrong. bittorrent will leak data over tor. Don't use bittorrent over tor. https://blog.torproject.org/bittorrent-over-tor-isnt-good-idea/

The problem is that "free VPNs" are all installing malware or doing malicious shit with your traffic. If it's not OpenVPN or WireGuard it's probably malware, and you should probably back up all your shit and reinstall your OS, and also chang all your passwords.

Tor is free and works good. It might be slow but tough shit i suppose.

Yeah no I never torrented over tor I just meant the speed was too slow. This one I'm talking about is more like an academic sort of p2p project, a Jap uni runs it.
