What's with the “nuclear powered” emphasis. Aren't all modern subs nuclear powered? That's a little different than nuclear armed. If it was diesel powered, would that go mentioned at all?

It's a Q post saying Russia is about to take over America militarily. I don't think he was going for accuracy

A lot of countries still have small diesel(?)-powered subs. They have certain advantages, like they can get even quieter than a nuclear sub. But they can't stay out for very long, so they're mostly just used to protect the coast.

You can get diesel as well. Only the US, Russia, the Britain, France, China, and India have nuclear ones. Australia are in the process of buying some atm too

Don't forget AIP subs using fuel cells or high test peroxide, as laughably fielded as they are.

No. Conventionally powered submarines are still used, especially for smaller maritime countries that have neither the money nor the use for long endurance subs. High test hydrogen peroxide / AIP subs are an option, but safety issues have limited its adoption.

I think Best Korea still operates a mostly diesel sub fleet

Could North Korea's fleet be called modern though? I would say that is more futuristic alien supertech.

it means sinking the fricker is an ecological disaster and so even funnier if done in a cuban port.
but not all subs are nuclear, plenty of diesel-electric subs which can be more stealth in electric mode, steam in pipes will always make noise.
