He will not, as in Greenland will not become part of the U.S, but he will reach a trade agreement that vassalises it to an extent and will result in the settlement of military bases on their territory as well as advantageous exclusive rights to the exploitation of their waters (ofc Greenland will keep the right to fish in their own waters). Under the same agreement Greenland might sell some of its territory for military and mining purposes but its inhabitants will not become U.S citizen nor will its government be controlled by the U.S government (other than through soft-power/bullying).
