A lot of that stuff was just about genealogy. Everyone in the ancient world claimed they were Irish descendants of Cherokee princesses. In school they give you a highlight reel but real mythology is 90% just mind-numbingly boring accounts of people migrating and intermarrying.

The Greek historians would always write about how the Amazons supposedly would kidnap guys and femdom them, but it's ridiculous. That obviously didn't happen. But if anyone knows where they live today let me know so I can go there and do some research.

Themiscyra is a real place on the Black Sea coast of what is now Turkey. But yeah in historical times they're placed up in Ukraine or in the Caucasus.
