A brief introduction to the aswang :marseyvampire: :marseyflagphillipines:

There's all kinds of legit scary people and creatures wandering the jungles of the rural areas of the Philippines at night. And even they are afraid of the aswang.

I'll find some better examples. Unfortunately it's harder than heck to find any good stories in English these days because zoomers want to make everything into a tiktok and google is useless. I'll have to do some more searching. I wish I was still in touch with the people who used to give me real time updates on rumors of aswang packs on the move in their provinces.

Probably the same thing. There's all kinds of local variations on the aswang, but generally it's shapeshifting, female, vengeful or hungry for fetuses/organs, nocturnal. And I'm pretty sure it predates Christianity by a long time so I would expect it to be common with general Malay culture.

Also is kind of reminiscent stuff from around the world that plays on innate human fears of scary girls at night like the Rusalki in Russia.

I prefer scary stories about Kitsune because they're smart, funny, and mean, and I think that if any existed in real life they would make excellent Dramanauts

But to each their own

I'm guessing a lot of the rumors come from the activity of the communist guerillas-turned-bandits prowling around out there.
