I don't want to call Pele in the Cosmos or Messi now "washed up" but going to play in the US is such an admission their career is over I don't see how they are meant to dazzle Americans into loving soccer

But Messi is washed up? He has been he since moved to PSG, that's when he stopped caring. And I don't mean that disrespectfully. He's just not on a level for top European football anymore. Keep in mind that WC level is worse than CL level.
I mean he is 36.
