LONDON (AP) --- Chelsea welcomed the English Football Association's decision to make a homophobic chant aimed at its supporters a punishable offense, calling it a "step in the right direction" on Friday.

The FA announced on Wednesday that chants of "Rent Boy," which have been directed at Chelsea fans by rival supporters, are now considered a breach of its rules.

It has written to all Premier League clubs and clubs throughout English soccer to enforce the point and attempt to stamp out discriminatory behavior.

"The 'Rent Boy' chant is intolerable and has no place in football or anywhere else," Chelsea said in a statement. "That opposition clubs can now face disciplinary action if their supporters engage in this discriminatory and offensive behavior is a step in the right direction. Everyone who chooses to participate in this chant must know their actions have consequences."

There have been allegations of the chants being made in recent Chelsea games.

"The Football Association strongly condemns all offensive, abusive and discriminatory chanting in football stadiums, and is determined to stamp this behavior out," the FA said. "These chants can have a lasting and damaging impact on people and communities within our game, and it must stop."

Good. He’s done good work with this side and there’s no guarantee anyone else would do any better.

I’m fricking sick of all the results-based analysis on this sub, criticising all his decisions on the back of the fact we lost. If Kane hadn’t taken that second penalty and someone else had missed you’d have shredded Southgate for it. If Saka had continued to struggle and not been subbed you would have whined and moaned about how Southgate left him out to dry when he was clearly spent.

England played a strong match against the reigning and likely back-to-back world champions, and were unlucky to lose. They had an excellent record at the tournament going into that game and did the country proud with a positive, attacking performance, like everyone had been asking out of Southgate’s England.

Three Virginia football players killed; ex-player in custody

Ryan said the students had traveled to Washington, D.C., on Sunday to attend a play as part of a class field trip. Longo said the students enjoyed a meal together and then "someone amongst them chose to do an act of violence."

About 13 minutes into the 20-minute news conference Monday, Longo was interrupted by another law-enforcement official and told that Jones had been apprehended. After announcing the arrest, Longo paused briefly.

The Colts fired their head coach Frank Reich two days ago after going 3-5-1. They replaced him with Jeff Saturday as interim head coach. A former player for the team, Jeff Saturday also boasts a two year coaching stint at Hebron Christian Academy, a high school in Georgia.

A reassuring quote from his first press conference:

"My role here is for 8 games. When this is over. They will do an exhaustive search and pick whoever their best candidate is to be the head coach of the Colts. If I'm considered I'd be honored. I have no idea where this thing is gonna go — not even a little bit."

"Here's the deal, man. None of us are promised a good job. I may be terrible at this. And after eight games, I'll say, 'God bless you. I am no good.' I may be really good it? But I dang sure ain't gonna back down."

Journos are of course angry about this due to them not hiring a black coach. Somehow they are jumping to the conclusion he's unfit for the job.

Colts' Jeff Saturday hire makes mockery of NFL's meritocracy creed and again moves goalposts for Black coaches

BOGALUSA, La. — Albany High School forfeited their final football game of the season against Bogalusa High School after the LHSAA decided not to move the game to a neutral site.

Albany High School officials tried to have the Nov. 4 matchup moved to a neutral site over safety concerns after a 15-year-old boy was killed in a shooting outside Bogalusa High School's football stadium during the school’s Homecoming game on Oct. 14.

"I’m feeling terrible because our coaches and our kids work too hard," Bogalusa High Principal Dr. Eric Greely said. "It was also our senior night, so we were excited looking forward to that."

The game was originally moved to a neutral site by the LHSAA after a 3-2 vote on Oct. 27. However, the LHSAA reversed that decision on Monday after Bogalusa High officials created a safety plan that involved multiple police departments.

In response, Albany chose to forfeit the game rather than play in Bogalusa.

"The kids are feeling really bad about it," Greely said. "They feel like these schools, other schools, have deserted them. They really do. You should have them talk about it. And they feel like it’s their senior night, and they would not have done that to anybody else. So, they just don’t understand it."

Albany High School Principal Sammie Lacara released a statement on the school's decision to forfeit the game.

"We appreciate the efforts of the Bogalusa High School administration, local law enforcement, as well as the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, to create as safe an environment as possible," Lacara said. "However, in the end, we still felt it was in the best interest of everyone involved to forfeit this particular game."
