and I chat with the owner sometimes, he's friendly. Recently he asked me out and I politely declined. The next time I visited he was very stand off-ish and not into chatting.
That chatty friendliness was not the default. Now he talks to you as if you're any random moid so congrats you actually got what you wanted.

Some people think that local businesses are all quaint little utopias where you become part of a community like it's fricking Cheers or something if you go there regularly. They don't understand that they're businesses and it's usually just a bit to get your money
I liked chatting to customers, for the most part at least, but you're right that a lot do forget that its a business. I'll give it to retail workers, most have definitely perfected the art of appearing like they've got nothing better to do than spend fifteen minutes helping customers decide between two identical products when they've got a never ending list of other shit to get done.
Chatting to customers was something I only ever enjoyed when I'd got everything else done.
