I went to Starbucks for a coffee yesterday, and gave the cashier my usual name, "Batman". As a 40yo woman with two babies in tow most of the time, I usually get a laugh when I say my name. But this time the cashier said "uh, we're not supposed to take a fake name, actually. I need a real name." I looked at her point black and said "do I need to give you my name to buy a coffee?" And she said "no no no, you can just pick something normal. You know, like Karen." I said "Well, that's obnoxious, but you do what you have to do," and walked away.
I almost complained to the manager but by the time I got my coffee, I saw that she had written "Erin" on my cup and disappeared herself into the back. So.... mindful of the fact that I'd likely be dismissed as "Karen" for complaining, I just left.
I don't like this timeline.

It's pronounced "bat-min". Like "Spiderman" without the hyphen.

"Batman" is a military position and thus a fairly common surname (more popular in the UK). Melbourne, Australia was briefly called Batmania and the name was considered for the continenet.

A batman was an officers servant.
In public schools (in Bongland this means fancy boarding schools) the elder students got to use the younger students as servants and this was called- I shit you not- ‘stragging' where the younger servants were called strags.

It would be better to be the man pitching or bowling the grenades rather than batting them away. Don't want to be caught out.
