Alright. Thread time.

Joe Brennan wears his MAGA hat to every tournament, knowing it irritates people. It’s a combination of obnoxious virtue signaling and bush league psyop. It’s a pretty open secret that everyone that isn’t actively his friend despises him
So there's a MtG player named Joe Brennan, who decided to wear his MAGA hat to a tournament. Now, for those of you who don't know, MtG is a game that panders to the kind of people who think that orcs are a racist stereotype of black people and the term, “tribal” is offensive. Naturally, his decision was not received well, and inspired one of the funnier Twitter rants I've seen in a while, from a Magic tournament judge, no less. Some of the highlights include:
Having shared a space with him as both a player and a judge, I've never witnessed him behave in a confrontational way. That's what he's going for, of course. “I'm just a regular guy with different opinions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ you crazy leftists need to calm down”
“Yeah, he doesn't confront anyone, but he's just trying to make me look crazy!”
I've also gone out of my way to never have any direct interaction with him. Because I know nothing good will come of it. Doesn't do much good to get DQ'd or fired from event staff.
“If I interact with him, I will sperg out and get myself fired!”
I will say this: frick Joe Brennan, frick everything he stands for, and frick his little MAGA hat stunt. I firmly believe that if you willingly identify as a Republican in the current day, you cannot be a good person.
This once again proves a red hat is one of the most powerful tool to cause seethe even to this day
MAGA represents:
- “White Lives Matter” aka Black Lives Don't Matter
- letting immigrants rot in open air prison cells
- direct, targeted, hateful oppression of trans people
- denying women equal rights
- antivax conspiracy BS
- oh yeah, insurrection!
Darn, when did Trump worship become so cool?
The comments under this rant are also quite unhinged. A number of people start a witch hunt for some well liked MtG player who invited Joe to a dinner with a bunch of people, because you know what they say about 40 people at a table with one nazi…
Also, someone makes an accusation that Joe was at January 6th, but this could also be someone making a joke.
There's also a /r/freemagic post about this, but it's pretty much all just dunking on the guy tweeting the rant:

Anyway, assuming Joe keeps this up, I'm sure there will be plenty more seethe coming his way. Maybe Wizards will have to make an official statement on it. That would be funny.

I tried getting into MtG for a second time after I quit in 2016, and tbh the community is more r-slurred than it's ever been. Like, I'm not even tryharding and when I won against some garbage pile it was nothing but the coldest stares from people who viewed countermagic as the devil's work. I was told to my face that I made the game less fun by just playing the game. Now I just do MtG with friends because I just cannot reason with people who view countermagic and control as some cheat code archetype.

You can have tournaments where its banned. If you do all rules ofc cheese is allowed, and if you hate cheese blame coast for shitty designs

I always thought those tournaments where control and mill are banned were for like, kids? So that way they had more fun?
Like, you have to slot in some anti-control, or have a plan. You cannot just be Timmy for the rest of your life.
"Control is unfair because I spent mana on my card and he spent other mana which makes my card bad." or something lol.

I dont know about mtg rules and idc. Normally rules are banned for fun tournaments where you just hang out and want to try something new.
If you cant play normally you are just bad. And thats fine who cares, but dont get pissy about it.

I just got into magic this year because a friend bought a precon commander deck for me. It's pretty fun as a casual 4 person card game, but I would never get into it seriously. Also, wouldn't touch the “community” with a 10 foot pole.

Yeah you gotta find a store that's competitive, they won't give you any shit for your deck choice and generally will be less spergy.
