It's probably bait but gets at a real tension in modern leftoidism, that there are circumstances where you cannot demand people "respect your identity" without disrespecting their own. This tension is resolved through progressive stacking of course - in this case the "straight" male has to give up his straightness, sorry.
OP should consider his boyfriend's trans identity as a shit test though - if OP does not do it his boyfriend will probably eventually get forcefemmed and detrans'd by Chad.
