Fake story. Didn't become a parent until he was 41? Okay, that fits with "too old when having kid to understand r-slurred brat he fathered".
But the rest of it is dumb. Five whole years the kid is going "I'm a he! A guy!" plus the parents used the preferred pronouns and name around friends/talking to the school, but don't use it at home? Kid would have been having a meltdown about this in the first week, instead of waiting this long to bring it up.
