How does this "science" content creator know about focal length but not that focal length is controlled by the design of the lens or mirror? How do they move on from "the focal length means it won't work" without explaining why the mirror couldn't just be flatter to extend the focal length?

I've seen enough dreck that I totally believe you. It's just deeply annoying when someone "explains" something and then moves on without answering the questions anyone who understood the previous explanation would ask.
It suggests that these creators really don't care if anyone in their audience actually learns anything.
