Weekly “What have you been playing?” Thread #new one

Been playing Crying Suns. This game feels like If FTL: Faster Than Light had listened to too much MCR in high school. It’s good, but you can see it’s maybe too inspired by other things, even if it’s fun. Also GDQ has been pretty bad. A few decent runs.

I've been playing Assetto Corsa, the same as every other week. This week I've been on a Skyline bender:

I've also got a bunch of mods I'm working on that I need to get around to finishing.

On top of that, I've been checking out Age of Wonders 4 after someone here recommended it. I'm having a pretty good time with it, but I'm still only about 40 turns into my first game. I made a race of kitties! :marseywave: Of course it's the end-game that's make-or-break for these games so I'll see how it goes.

Additionally, I played a little Deep Rock Galactic with a friend. It's neat, but I can't see myself becoming obsessed with it like some people seem to be.

I still need to finish up Spyro 3 and I'd like to check out that Age of Empire 2 DE expansion soon. :D All of the people posting here are also kinda making me want to get back into RimWorld, but that's more of a commitment than I think I can manage right now!

I tried to get into assetto corsa but the physics just feel so wonky, and the graphics are hilariously bad. I’d rather just play project cars at that point

There are some things you can do to ameliorate the dated visuals but it's certainly a mixed bag to say the least! The environments especially look like something out of a PS2 game, which is why my screenshot conveniently makes use of lots of motion blur. :P

I can't really speak to the physics since I don't have much experience with other racing sims other than AMS2 and PCars, but I prefer Assetto Corsa to those at least. Which ones do you play?

Ah that’s probably why, you took the opposite route most people go. Start with arcade racers, to simcades then to more serious stuff. I like Forza 7 Motorsport for easy quick racing, Project cars 2 for more sim racing (career mode with everything on realistic, cockpit view, VR, etc). Gonna give iRacing a try soon tho, heard good things

The multiplayer focus has already scared me off from iRacing. :P

I like arcadey racing games too - I played an embarrassing amount of Forza Horizon 4. But I find with those kinds of games I kind of rubbed up against their limitations eventually. Mostly I'm just in too deep with AC now - my install is over 1TB and growing...

Have you played Wreckfest?

yea apparently it's pretty intense and you get a ranking based on skill and how much you wreck. I do club racing irl tho so a lot of the coaches recommend playing it for practice

Oh I love arcade racing games too, Burnout 3 is prob my favorite game of all time. I also play Trackmania sometimes but that can get pretty neurodivergent

I have not played Wreckfest but shit it looks fun, I used to love Destruction Derby 64 and this kinda looks like it. Will add to my sale alert list
