There's a sub called /r/patientgaymer where they talk about avoiding hype and AAA Ubisoft slop, mostly because they are too poor.
One often slapfight inducing topic is difficulty, where boomer postwall gaymers lament their inability to have the same millisecond reaction time at the ripe old age of 31 vs their tween years, and how they enjoy gaymes on easy mode when their kiddies have finally gone to sleep or whatever.
Their natural enemies are the ultrastrags of Soulslike gaymers, where they have only one singular measure of worth in theri NEET lives - beating the most DIFFICULT games of all time!! Darksouls, the true value and bragging rights of a g*mer
Between the 2 groups the Soulshit cute twinks are the more obnoxious, any mention of easy and soul in the same sentence makes their eternal turbo g*mers lose their collective
Soulshit isn't for p*ssies! It's a manly man's gayme! Any suggestion of future Soulshit having an easy mode for grandpa, even if modded is an affront to god.
Right anyways for todays

Boomer gaymer says he enjoys easy mode, fights ensue
Most gaymer soy speech ever:
"We are always looking to improve, but, in our games specifically, hardship is what gives meaning to the experience. So it's not something we're willing to abandon at the moment. It's our identity." -Hidetaka Miyazaki
It's toxic AF to respect the developers vision for their own games? Criticize it all you want, but at least respect their artistic integrity.
Defenders of Soulshit come forth!
Soulshit tantrums prove the guy right
RELEASE THE DOWNMARSEYS AGAINST THE HERETIC
easy mode r*pes the integrity of the experience! or something
"There are untold hundreds, thousands of games with an easy mode, and people still find ways to throw shade at the handful that don't." wat
"No, try criticizing a From Software game for excluding difficulty settings and you will quickly be downmarseyd." DIE B-WORD DIE
Dark souls has a target audience just like any other game and any given game isn't going to be able to cater to exactly everyone. Even the games with a variety of difficultly options, because that game even with difficulty options may just not be their thing. The point of dark souls is that it's difficult, that is the “experience” I HAVE SO LITTLE DIFFICULTY IN LIFE I NEED CHALLENGE IN MY ESCAPISM FRICK YOU
Difficulty settings is not something that should be forced on developers
What the frick are these losers talking about lmoa

Main difference between normal games and great games is which moveset you need to focus on.
Bad, normal, and often good games make you memorize enemies movesets, great games have you master your character's moveset and use that to overcome the enemies.
Im an r-slur but plenty of examples of this but ill go with spelunky 1

I'm mostly with you on that reaction is more fun than memorization and that has always been my main complaint about the FromSoft games. That hasn't stopped me from sperging and playing most of all the soulsborne games. I still prefer stuff like DMC/Bayonetta/NMH and the like because it's more fast-paced and focused on movement.

despite what i said i really love fromsoft games, they usually give you room to make your character the center of gameplay with the builds they allow, even in really tough boss fights you can usually win like just by preparing and focusing on your character moves and abilities and its EVERYTHING

metastrags hate anything that is unpredictable.
when new RE2 came out, i saw many people in the forums asking to remove mr x, me and a few other people complained he was too easy and restrained but they came out telling us to complete the game on hardest under 2 hours before we could talk. that isn't too hard to do if you follow a guide, but mr x is a random factor and he can screw it up, they didn't like that.
these speedrunning cute twinks were possibly the reason nemesis was so stripped down in remake 3.

Reminds me of playing Offworld Trading Company with a friend. Because the game involves an everchanging market of supply/demand he couldn't react fast enough to it and didnt like it. Because he's the kind of chump that always looks for a single meta solution in every RTS.

DS 1-2 have more focus on fundamentals. You could quit the game for years and come back better than before if you understand how to play. 3 and especially ER are very much about enemy movesets. Although 3 and ER also let you stuff every normal enemy's attacks with a big grug weapon

Try Blade of Darkness. It's soulsborne's grandpa (released in 2001) and has rolls and dodges and blocks but no invulnerability frames, if the blade cuts the flesh, the flesh comes off, with gratuitous amounts of blood.

I think the hardest game I ever played was Borderlands 2 on the highest overpower level or whatever it's called, and I don't mean it as a compliment. The higher NG+ settings in that game are absolutely unoptimized and busted as frick

OP levels are built for neurodivergents looking to make use of their min maxed-perfect gear they spent 100s of hours grinding. assuming a relatively normal playthrough with only a bit of grinding then yea its a busted

I suppose there's different kinds of hard. Platformers can be butt and that's different from strategy games like Civilization or Fire Emblem at the hardest settings.

Fire emblem difficulty is just resetting when the RNG fricks you over and instagibs your unit.
Jump in the discussion.

What's funny is that Awakening Lunatic Plus seems adjusted for this. That setting has diablo rng ex machina and there's no way to plan exactly for each level because enemies get randomized skills. Some early levels can be unbeatable if the enemies get certain skill combinations.
It's like the devs are taunting the fans for resetting. “Too hard? Reset your whole campaign lolololol”

I don't get why people don't get this. It's a challenging game but it's well known for being a challenging game because it's fair, doable for most people if you try hard enough and lacks the bullshit you would quit other hard games for, along with having fun gameplay that doesn't get boring if you die to a boss more than a couple times. It is not actually some sort of pinnacle of difficulty.
It's not a game for hardcore elitists to jerk themselves off to over how good they are for completing it. Pretty much anyone who regularly plays video games can beat it within a reasonable amount of time if they sit themselves down and put in the effort, which is why “git gud” isn't an empty comment. Most hard games are bad games that only appeal to mentally ill disgusting degenerates (see: gdq) because they're fundamentally not fun, souls games stand out because they're hard but actually fun.

not only is it not difficult, these clunky, awkward jap RPGs with their awful online components are without doubt the most overrated games ever made. The difficulty comes from the first 5 hours spent trying to figure out how anything in the game works, and then spending an hour on each boss figuring out attack patterns, unless you're fighting some annoying spammy shit like Aldrich and then it's just spending an hour rolling dice until you land on the right combination of moves and you win
frick soulsshit

If you're spending that long on each boss it sounds like it's actually difficult for u tho, and if you don't get any enjoyment out of it because of that you shouldn't bother with them. Sekiro was like that for me despite the other stuff it had going for it, wasn't worth it for me, it happens
I don't consider the others to be hard games outside of a few gimmicky bosses and if they was the only draw I wouldn't play them anyway, my fav part is reading the item descriptions

I kept telling everybody who said the game is too hard it is just pattern recognition. I was able to beat Dark Souls 1 and 3 with a basic long sword & shield combo. Anybody who puts in some effort could beat the game no problem.

I beat Dark Souls 2 with dual caestus because I thought it would be funny to punch everything. It turned out to be extremely strong because almost all the bosses in that game were weak to blunt damage.

I can only speak for the first game so far but I agree and I think the difficulty it does have is fair. You can beat the main game by just out leveling any problem and if you're bad at one aspect of the game your build can get around it. (No need to parry with a zweihander )
New game plus cycles are harder but then you'd willingly be choosing to do those.

And even if it was is sure as frick isn't difficulty that requires twitch reactions, it's about learning the system.
Frick most games are like that, raw reactions checks are usually limited even in shit like Shoot Em Up (more shoot em ups should have practice modes for the patterns lol)
