Is steam deck worth it

I don't play games much but some I'd like to try some. I don't have a pc but can the steam deck run most things at 60fps?

Someone I know has got one, and they look far less shitty in the flesh than in the marketing pics. Also nicer to hold and use than you'd expect with a premium feel to it.

That said, it's still kind of a gay thing to own as an adult. How often really is it going to be the ideal time to break out your giant fricking handheld PC to play some autismic PC game? I couldn't think of a single use I'd have for it. Even if I was still doing a daily train commute I couldn't get passed the cringe factor of imagining seeing an adult playing a Steam Deck in public and then imagining being that adult.

Since I'm camping in a tent half the time during the week or spend a lot of time waiting in my truck I thought it might be a good use. I would never use it in public lol.

I've got one of those Chinese emulator devices for old stuff that owns just to keep in a pocket (Miyoo mini, the original one) to play Tetris. Bizarrely on one of the mountains I regularly camp on I get an excellent 5G signal where I can't get any service at my property and I was able the other day to remote play yakuza 0 on my iPad at reasonsable framerates connected to my ps5 at home

That sounds like an almost respectable use case.

Think it also has HDMI out and you can connect Bluetooth controllers so could get an OK setup between portability in a tent and hooked up to a screen in the truck.

Battery life is OK as well from what this guy was saying.

Hm. Sounds pretty good then. If I buy it now I'm just hoping a new updated one isn't going to drop over the holidays or something

That's pretty much the perfect use case for a Steam Deck. It's an emulation beast imo.
