I don't get it, why didn't they put more micro transactions in StarCraft? If the IP was worth it they could have kept it going and made it profitable in a similar way.
Probably limited because it's a competitive RTS. Changing unit models or buying new units kind of fricks it up. They'd do it if they thought they'd profit of course, but at the time they were trying hard to keep it relevant as a an E-sport.
Or maybe they could've found a way and just fumbled the bag.
They have microtransactions but as you point out they're just more limited in what they can do. You do have to pay for the coop commanders (beyond a couple free ones) so there's that, and I think you can pay to change your voice lines, but that's just for you not your opponent.
It's also just not a popular genre anymore. I don't think zoomers are capable of really playing it.
No they're actually too fast for nuzoomers (not us older zoomers ) but also a big thing in modern gaming is that kids want to be able to leave losing games immediately and without punishment, which is part of why battle royales have replaced the "slower" versions even of the same exact games like call is duty

Do want? Make a shitty skin for the units that most people don't see cause the nature of the game.

SC had that, at least. If you didn't like your odds, you could just gg and surrender.

True, but because it's a 1v1, by gging out you're losing
In battle royales, you don't lose-you just don't win
