Let me tell you a story: three years ago a MOBA (game similar to LoL) called Pokemon Unite launched. In its short history, one team has dominated like no other and won the world championship both times it's been hosted: Luminosity Gaming. And the star player of that team? Overlord, widely considered the GOAT of Unite. The game's fanbase typically glazes him, however there has been a growing leftoid movement in the community to get those nasty pro players to stop using mean words like "r-slur" and "neighbor". This all came to a head when another pro player released secretly recorded audio of Overlord calling Espeon mains "wheelchair players", among other naughty things:

This led to many strong reactions from the Pokemon Unite fandom:

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>i've been thinking all day how to say this on main. i wanted to uplift voices of the often unheard, but the fact that everyone is scared to speak up says volumes.

Now I'm assuming this is overlord. Its exposing season, might be time to sit back and watch it unfold.

Overlord would not address the situation for another week, leaving the bloodthirsty masses to fester with their delusions of either exacting vengeance on the ebil gaymer chud or slurping the chode of their professional children's MOBA playing hero/role model. When he did, he released a mass of WORDS WORDS WORDS:

Now, here are some choice reactions:
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>No one is cancelling you. Why did you go right to that when faced with any sort of consequences for your actions.
β MUFA | SteelAgentKyle (@SteelAgentKyle) February 14, 2024
We are asking that you take responsibility for your words. https://x.com/CrisHeroes didn't get cancelled. He apologized, took responsibility, and is taking steps to give back.
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>can't say I agree with this take though people definitely instantly went to attempt to cancel me and succeeded I lost a lot of things that I worked really hard for no one came up to me to talk to me about it and try to have a discussion with me which I really wish happened
β CrisHeroes (@CrisHeroes) February 14, 2024
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>guys its not using slurs that is the problem, its all these people mad that i did!!!! the outrage means you didnt care!!! all disabled people are just twitter angry and not upset i, a world champion of their game, uses their slur as an insult to other competitors!

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>calling marginalized people "gremlins" in a post about you taking accountability on yourself is not the take you think it is. even if you no longer say these slurs, your written words are still rooted in ableism. it's hard, but you are held to a higher standard as a pro player

<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>Love seeing half the comments going "No one is out to cancel you, sweaty, twitter gremlins aren't real!" and the other half being twitter gremlins (that supposedly don't exist) literally tagging the org and pressing them to drop you
β TTVProfScamUNITE (@ProfScamUNITE) February 14, 2024
tale as old as time
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script>Overlord. Ya fricked up. It's okay to frick up. You had the opportunity to make it right by saying, "I fricked up, I'm sorry."
β MUFA β’ Mage (@Mage_o7) February 14, 2024
I wanted to root for you in showing that you care, but after reading, I don't think you're sorry and I believe you think that what you did wasn't wrong.
I would post more but I'm running out of Soyjak ideas.

I'm going to need to figure out how to actually embed stuff on this site; my post came out looking like shit because I just used the default Twitter embed code. I will fix it when I'm feeling less lazy

Me and my friends coded a discussion forum for a class project (in 1998) and showed that kind of thing working as a feature in our class presentation. I was like "look I posted some background music on this thread, hilarious". We got a B+.
