This game is so awful even comparing to the same gen (HGSS). Everything is somehow slower, the main plot feels insanely short, the side missions are just “umm show me a pokemon and get three (3) random useless balls you can buy 150 of easily,” the safari zone is mid, and the selection sucks. Feels like half the stuff in the new gen are cross evolutions which aren't even available before post game or without trading. Also where the frick are the fire types? Got forbid I want the water starter and have zero good options for a fire line. Ponyta sucks, all my homies hate Ponyta because it's useless. Meanwhile there's 1,000,000 water options, why? Because frick you.
Don't get me started on the extreme autism additions that everyone hates. Guess I'm not getting Spiritomb because I didn't buy two copies of the game to play multiplayer with, and frick poffins, no Milotic either unless I decide to say frick it and use the event one, but then what's the point? Meanwhile you can get a Garchomp easy as pie, so why even pretend like this is to hold powerlevels down.
Also holy shit, comparing the Pokegear in HGSS to the pile of shit the Poketech thing is makes this came look intentionally bad. It makes no sense how awful that thing is. Makes me think I should play XY before ORAS in case there's anything as shitty a downgrade going back a game.
At least you can pretty easily get shinies in the non-existent postgame.

For me the worst was Sun/Moon, largely for the ridiculous amount of hand-holding and gimmick features.
DPPt was one of the best gens imo, but maybe I'm just old. The physical/special split overhauled the mechanics in a completely logical way. The story wasn't intrusive and you were generally free to explore the map. Would agree that this is where legendary spam started to get a bit out of control. The general monster designs were pretty decent and while some variety was lacking, this was from a time when people didn't plan teams before playing

I'm not really planning a team, but I'm attempting to (mostly) use stuff I haven't previously in each game, that's rather hard. Right now I've got Empoleon, Gabite, Luxray, Drifblim, then both Toxicroak and Skorupi. Staraptor's hair thing looks too r-slurred for me to want him around and I'd rather have Glaceon or Froslass than Abomasnow, so two poisons it is for now.

I played through Platinum for the first time ish-recently, I thought it was okay- I generally prefer the older games. My intent was to transfer my gen 3 living dex to Platinum, however after transferring 6 pokemon with that migration minigame thing, I decided that wasn't happening. So now I just play romhacks, which I find more challenging and generally more enjoyable.
If you like the older gens, I highly recommend the Pokemon Emerald Crest romhack. It's emerald version with all the new content up through generation 9. Also has Pokemon followers like HGSS has, which are cute.

Nah, I'm not doing romhacks. I'm doing the move the dex forward, already beat Black and HG so need to trade then import those and put them in Box and move them to Home. My understanding is transfering from DPPt into BW is much easier than from FRLG/RSE to DPPt. I do have to trade all my shit from HG to DP because I do not trust that HG cart to be legit enough to connect to BW, but we'll see. I already caught ~150 trashmons to trade over for my stuff lol
Also from what I've seen, Pt is leagues ahead of DP in terms of endgame content and use basic usability stuff. Like the second screen thing has two buttons in Pt so you can go both directions through your apps.

You might be forgetting that DP was from the early days of the DS when most devs had no fricking clue what to do with the dual screens. Most players just ignored the feature entirely.

Really I'm just annoyed that HG did the same thing much, much better. DP has a shitty version of the town map on the lower screen and an actual good one you have to menu into on the top screen. It's just stupid. I doubt I was be so incensed by this if I was playing HG after Pearl.

You realise that DP predates the iPhone, right? The feature was meant to replicate the pokegear from Gen 2 to make use of the DS's touchscreen gimmick, but mirrored tech of the time. It didn't really work so they learned from that when making HGSS.
I can agree that it's annoying to go back to, but it's completely understandable imo.

I mean it's understandable in that way, but even playing GS on release, I think the Pokegear was more functional than this. I mean there's some ridiculously stupid shit like having 2 or 3 ways to view your team on the lower screen but they all are useless and except for checking friendship and you still need to do all your team management on the top screen via the main menu
