Games as a service are passé now, they need to keep up with the trends and make it quadruple A, like the hit Ubisoft game Skull and Bones.
In reqality, I don't see a reason to care about big corpo slop. If you read the article the boss talks only about revenue and player retention, brand recognition and of course it's all based on live service/free to play crap that oversaturates market and fails over and over again.
You will get better entertainment from some shitty indie game for 2 dollars.

But generally big devs lost talent. Skull and bones looks and plays worse than assassin creed black flag a 2013 game.
And sadly they ain't the only one like I didn't experienced any glitches in Spider-Man 2018 while Spider-Man 2023 was full of glitches despite the game reuses 80% of the assets
