Shotgun King is one of the few "roguelites" that preserves anything from actual roguelikes that isn't also found in an arcade game. It's turn-based, has discrete movement, and has unavoidable drawbacks.

The only reason I wouldn't call Shotgun King an actual roguelike is because it doesn't have identification or interactions between items (such as scrolls of enchanting being used on another item). I recommend Brogue since it has decent controls and graphics, and isn't full of bloat (other than the 3 monsters called bloats, which are essentially creepers).

i saw a bit of a review comparing it to dungeons of dredmor which is another i really liked (but the review also mentioned frickin' binding of isaac >;/)

You need to create an account to play, but other than that it's an extremely easy to access but still complex roguelike. nethack/angband work in-browser but have extremely redundant controls unlike this game, which can theoretically be played with just the cursor, the i key, and the esc key (all item options such as apply, equip, remove, drop, and throw are accessible by clicking on an item in your inventory accessed using i, and you can click to move if the numpad movement is counter-intuitive)

There is a peepee sized hole in your brain where your ability to create original thoughts used to be.
