Undertale saved my life : r/gaming

https://old.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/8xnf2a/undertale_saved_my_life/

A quick glance through my post history and anyone can clearly see that I am not doing okay and have not been doing okay for quite some time. I fully intended to take my own life before the end of the week.

I decided to spend what little money I have on a few pleasantries before my time came - watched a few of my favorite movies that I hadn't seen in years, treat myself to a couple nice meals, etc. I was basically doing a bucket list of “let me do this one last time.”

I remembered thoroughly enjoying Undertale when I first played it. The game is both humorous and deep with an amazing soundtrack. And it's fairly short - you can easily beat it in a single sitting or two. Seemed like the perfect “last game” to play before checking out.

I forgot just how powerful this game can be. It made me feel alive for the first time in a long time. I think I cried through the entire final hour. After feeling this way, there is no way I can bring myself to take my life now. I have determination to push on.

Thank you Toby Fox - you genuinely saved my life.

The game is ok but is basically babies first rpg. Nothing really special about it.

I don't think that's fair. It's got a pretty neat meta narrative going on that's imo novel. I wish more games had a path/ending that works as a sort of corrupted version of the "true" one.

I do like the idea of the gameplay building off of the idea of sparing your enemies instead of fighting them, but I'm not going to pretend that it was the first RPG with a pacifist route or it being the best one with a pacifist route.
