Objectively, FIFA's (EA FC) and COD shouldn't be counted since they are more like seasons so if you count them you can also count Fortnite since the game is also on chapter 5 (season 60) or something so the game had as much changes every year as cod and fifas. If mobilise would also be counted, with candy crush and etc even less games would be younger than 6 years.

I think when you go farther back the back catalog sucks. Old games dont suffer as much in QOL and graphics as before.
Playing vidya in 2006 and going back 6 years or more was rough, especially due to OS compatibility issues. There was a huge drop in quality between the eras, you wouldn't go back to something that ran on DOS at 640x480
Now the old games are still pretty good, and also I wonder how much they count remasters as old games.

Yeah and we've also reached a point where 20 year old games have massive cross platform support, and can much more easily be played by normies, and not just turbo neurodivergents who know how to tweek a 10 year old game to run on junky hardware.
Even ancient games like Baldur's Gate and the two original Fallout games run easy peasy on steam now.

Very true, most big AAA games from ps4 era still looks very good. Like you feel like 0 difference in graphics between Spider-Man 1 and 2 despite games have 5 years between them. It's not like how graphic jumped between ff7 to ff8 in 1 year on same hardware or ff10 and ff12. Gameplay also barely changed in last 10 years but worst is game devs loosing skills, despite all cowtools they have it take them a lot longer to make new games than in early ps4 gen. Arkham Knight had everything better that Gotham knights and suicide squad and those games were 8 years after Arkham knight released

it's honestly bananas how little things changed between the last few generations. I played the non remastered Halo 1 for PC last year and it was still fine. Didn't need any QOL upgrades like Doom does
I've noticed a lot more indie games aping the retro style because it's charming and can be unique where as AAA raytraced graphics slop always looks identical, maybr people have a renewed interest in old games now too?

Ray tracing was such obvious scam, that shit made sense for movies because movies are just pre recorded video file and can be played by any video playing device. But for games that ray tracing shit need to run live on hardware so it opens wide a door for new problems “optimisation” so in the end it made more sense to just draw the lighting and shadow than frick around optimisation. And to this day we only have 2 games with good RT “cyberpunk” and “metro” and they are like 4 years old now.
I won't be surprised if Nintendo will just ignore that shit entirely.
But in general retro games gives more unique experience because back then differentiation was strong, devs tried to make something new, often failed but now devs just want to be safe and just copy, far cry open world, souls games, Fortnite and cod
