Spore is more controversial than unpopular.
I have played it with my friends long ago, and we all had fun until space age when most of them got bored.
The unpopular and arguably (or more like factually) bad game I enjoy is Humankind. I won't ever argue that it's not fundamentally broken mess with limited viable options. Even the subreddit is mostly buck broken when it comes to that. This is the top post this year:

It's a progressive game. There is a women emancipation event, where if you decline you get a purely negative modifier and if you agree you get a positive one. We all know that's scientifically not how it goes.
